I had a great time a few days ago when I saw a very young Andy in Beds in front of a spit. (I hope andy can post this shot again in this tread) Now I want to know when you guys got your first contact with vintage planes/warbirds. And I want to see some evidence of that! I want to see a pic of you in front of a plane (as a kid if you got a early meet with aircraft 😉 ).
I want to give a example. Below you can see two pics of me taken in 1986 when I was about 5 years old. 😮 To avoid any mistakes, I am the boy standing on the wing and that young lady is my mother! That was the last year I wore a short, so enjoy!
So show me your first meet with the love of your life! Please post some and save me from an eternal embarrassment! 😮
I did the best I could to make the quality of these pics better, but I am glad I am not a master at photoshop! 😉
Now I am curious,

ok here we go…
Seeing as everyone is being so brave, here is my first ever portrait in front of a warbird. The aircraft is of course the (then) TFC P-51D ‘Moose/Candyman’. The photo was taken on a non airshow day around the mid-late eighties. My dad was getting some detailed pictures of the aircraft at the time to aid building a near scratch built 1/6th scale model.

Second row first on the left. My first flight ever was in RF569 for two hours out of RAF Upwood.

Love Catalinas. How about starting a Catalina thread to see how many surviving Cat. photos we can post??
Yes, sometimes you can see treasures behind the people on those old pics as those cats. Also think about the pentice of Willy Hendrick, …
One more of me I found last week. Here you can see me in the cocpit of a Belgian Airforce F104 Starfighter. This pic was taken at Koksijde around 1984-85.
Don’t I look innocent? 😮 😉

Hi folks
that’s me on my 22nd birthday on 17th May 1987 at the Georgian Bay (ONT) airfield, trying to steal one of the 7 (seven !) PBY Catalinas of then defunct Avalon Aviation baking in the sun there. All but one of these beauties had the props removed but otherwise were in acceptable condition.
I had my camera with me, so there is quite a number of photographs & slides in my collection showing these birds (and a DHC Beaver floatplane) – if interest arouses, I might post a few here in a separate thread.
Cheers

Just came to think of it. My first photo with a plane was taken at Gardermoen AFB during the 40th anniversary of the Air Force. Star veteran performer was Sally B in her (then) new paint job. 447th BG Olive drab w/ yellow tail. I was at the time a member of the supporter group, and was invited inside the plane. There is even a photo in the Supporter group magazine shot outside the old lady with a couple of guys from the crew (including Keith Sissons). Anyway, to embarass myself in a great way; here is the photo. Taken shortly after I declined to replace Bruce Dickinson in Iron Maiden… 😉

With such a proud daughter dancing with her even more proud dad….who really needs an aircraft! This is a magic moment. What a fantastic photographic portrait.
Well done.

No Aircraft Needed….
…but where is the aircraft, as per the theme of this thread, eh Flt.Lt,  Sir?
No aircraft needed. The smiles of both proud daughter and proud dad tells it all! 😉

Mark 12. Coincidence, I just came across a photograph taken by a friend of mine at Grimbergen (EBGB) near Brussels in 1957 representing that Prentice.
I will scan it and post it.

First and last.
September 1959 – First flight ever in this Prentice VR249/G-APIY out of a field near Ramsgate – 15 minutes and hooked. The aircraft now, I understand, is in the Newark Air Museum.
July 2004 – Last private flight, the A-37b Dragonfly – 30 minutes, nearly 200 gallons – what oil crisis?
Note hands still in pockets. 🙂

My Spitfire and I…
My word is my bond.
And if you believe that you’ll believe anything… 😀 😀 😀 😀
Mike, Well done.

Especially for Andy in Beds……
It was worth waiting for that one Mike. You just look adorable. 😮 Thanks to your bravery, Andy in Beds must fulfil his promise. Just wait and see.
PS: thanks for the nice screensaver! 😀

I’ll have to fire the old scanner up to properly contribute to this thread. Damn digital world we live in.
In the meantime, here’s a photo from a USO dance a few years back with my oldest daughter. Amazing what you can buy on ebay!
Cheers,
Steve

Now this is me with the Mustang I dead-sticked in after a dog-fight during the Soccer War in 69. (I won, of course). Shot at Illopango undergoing repairs… Or the Tuesday after Breckenridge 91 at “Connie” Edwards ranch. You choose…… 🙂 Sorry for the poor quality of the photo. 😮 At the time I owned a pocket camera which nearly gave up the ghost at “Connie’s” ranch, so he gave me one of those paper disposable thingies you use once, and then deliver both camera and film. Naturally this is not Hi-Tech for use in a dark hangar. Too bad, there were so many goodies in there! Anyway, thanks to “Connie” for letting me see his “Air Force” as it was back then.

Me in front of a WAR FW190 that was based at Perth.
Aha! That’ll also be the one which came up for sale about a year ago, which I still reckon ought to have been donated to me by virtue of it’s personalised registration. G-SYFW. Steve Young’s Focke Wulf. See? Made for me, it is… 😀
