Out of utter boredom and spending some time away from the PC( to satisfy the significant other, who incidently has now gone bed ) i just sat through that so called film Hot Shots. I know its not the best aviation film in existence but there are some good sequences in it.
Anyway, i was wondering if anyone knew how many and which Gnats were used and what happenned to them after. Some of them are obviously mock up ‘s but it got me to thinking…………………

You asked the question that was in my head after I saw the film too Adwebber.
Wonder what became of them all.

That the film is dire goes without mention.
Sad to hear of the 2? write offs and loss of life. I have been looking around and not found anything about them yet.

Hot Shots 1
Craig Charleston’s neat solution to getting the Gnats to the dockside without breaking down the wings and systems, despite being over wide. From there they were palletised.

I seem to recall that one of the Gnats came to grief during filming. Its a dire film.

It was the static extras i was refering to as mockups and i think i have that book tucked away somewhere. Have to look tomorrow.

I’m not so sure any of them were ‘mock ups’ as there were quite a number sold to the USA. Ther book Folland Gnat by Victor Bingham has an individual history of each machine, but it’ll take all night to track them down. Possibly some Indian Ajeets appeared in that film as static extras also.
