Last nights ‘Flying proms’ at OW was just great.
The opening display by the Pilatus B4 Sailplane was just the best Glider display I think I have ever seen, all the more beautiful as it was flown to Pachelbel’s Canon,It was just so good I can not do it justice here. Brilliantly flown by Colin Short I think.
Other aircraft were good, it was great see the Boxkite up with the Avro Triplane.
But the man I take my hat off to is Airbedane, what a phenominal Spitfire entrance. I could see the conductor looking over his shoulder, baton raised, waiting for the moment when he could see AR501 approaching from the college end. The crowd could not see, the baton fell and as the first bars of Walton’s Spitfire prelude and fugue souded out AR501 appeared crowd right at zero feet coals piled on and swept around the curve, the merlin sound blending perfectly with the orchestra, pure brilliance followed by a display that brought a tear or two.
A brilliant evening, the flying was , well , just great, the music superb and the fireworks the icing.
Thanks OW .
