In 1996, my aunt and I went to the Blue Max Museum at Booker, and we were shown around the various exhibits by one of the pilots. We spent a good long while chatting away (mainly about Spitfires!) and he even let us have a look around the restoration side of the hangar – where we got to see Kermit Weeks’ Spit IX PL344, among other things.
Who might this have been? He was about my height (5′ 6″-5′ 8″), stocky build, I can’t recall whether he had much hair or not, but he was a splendid chap!
It was around July or August that year – can’t recall which month exactly, but I do remember the next day was the airshow at White Waltham (think it might have been July), where Grace and Dutch Spitfires were performing (our “guide” had apparently also flown ML407).
I hope someone can give me even an approximate answer, ‘cos we’ve been wondering who it was ever since!!

Nope, that wasn’t him. IIRC I think he owned an old-style Cessna that was in the hangar there – a red one? (as long shots go….! )

Have a look here Daz, this should confirm/deny if it was Jonathon.

Wasn’t Tony Bianchi. Perhaps it was Jonathan Whaley – need a pic to confirm it, though.

Tony Bianchi ? he had flown ML407 when Carolyn Grace flew AR213, I think.
