Hello,
As previously mentioned on my other threads, I will be looking to buy something exciting within 2 years if all goes to plan – likely a P51D.
I have just visited –
http://www.courtesyaircraft.com
Please point me in the direction of other brokers sites if you know them, or indeed to any vendors of P51’s currently on the market.
It may seem premature but I wouldn’t rule out ‘bonding’ with a project earlier than this – all things are possible if HP’s impulse juices start flowing!

Hairyplane may be interested in this if he’s looking for a project (OK, so it’s a Spit, but it’s a project nonetheless).

I’m guessing it’s TE566??

I hope Hairyplane has DEEP DEEP pockets as buying is one thing, insuring, running and maintaining year after year is yet another.
Maintainance wise – go for a P51 over a Spit unless you have a fetish for working in narrow dark spaces and like lots (and lots) of nuts and bolts. They are however equal in fun to fly in!
Good luck in your search!

Very interesting, I look forward to seeing some pics in the future. Any idea what condition 44-13521 is in?
By: Stieglitz - 19th July 2004 at 14:35
What type of Mustang is he working on (if this is true)?
Would be good to have one painted as one from the same squadron as Janie.
Assuming this is not a rumour starting off… And if Janie were to be for sale I think a forum whip-around would be in order.
Maurice Hammond has a second P51D mustang which he has recently bought. This new P51D has serial number 44-13521 (see warbirds directory in Flypast may 2004)

Sorry to cause your heart attack this morning Yak11Fan 😮 . These could be rumors I heard so that is why I ask if it is up for sale. Did you notice the question-mark????
I am 100% shure that I read that Mr. Hammond wants to sell this mustang in the (distant?) future. My guess is that he will sell the Mustang but only when his other P51D Mustang project has reached a further stage of restoration (or even flies).
So, Mr. Hammond will not be without a mustang. I hope you can recover from this shock Yak11Fan and hope you get well soon! 😉

I’m interested to find out where you read this. I think the best thing is to watch this space and see what happens. At what stage of the project do you think he will sell? Any idea how the project is progressing? I’d be interested to see any pictures.

I found some other adverts with P51 mustangs for sale:
http://www.restore-online.com/aircraft_sale.html
http://www.totalperformanceaircraft.com/inventory.asp
and another from the same aircraft:
http://www.pilotmarket.com/category/Aircraft_For_Sale/War_Birds/North_American/
And in the projects page of this group a restoration is almost ready and up for sale:
http://www.sq1aviation.com/
Maybe you should also think about buying a P51 which is already flying in europe.
Isn’t Maurice Hammonds P51 up for sale? And wasn’t there a mustang reported for sale recently in France?
Good luck in your quest Hairyplane!

Warbird
Hi all,
I believe that the best way forward for me is to acquire a pristine/ proven machine, ideally with some WW2 provenance and some post-restoration awards.
It would need to come onto the UK register.
I am only interested in single-engined machines and ideally, it should have at least a jump seat or, even better, dual controls.
I guess that narrows things down to a P51.
When I mentioned ‘project’ there may be something going through the shop somewhere that doesn’t have somebody’s name on it and can get some dialogue going?
Exciting times!
Off to OW now….

Warbird Dealers & Brokers
Hairyplane,
Apart from Courtesy there are a number of others that may have aircraft on their books worthy of attention. Although I have not checked these sites recently they usually have stuff worth dreaming about.
http://www.shermanaircraft.com/
http://www.classicwings.com/sales.htm
Additionally the “Yellow Bible” Trade a Plane should also be consulted at length. They have an on-line version of the paper although I think you have to subscribe.
I have been known to trawl all of the above at times however my ability to turn dreams to reality has been severly constrained by the lack of financial horsepower to execute my desires!
May your search lead to satisfying resolution.

Expert help…
First of all, let me say I wish I had your problem.
Nelson Ezell recently told me that couple of years ago he did a pre-purchase inspection for a man who was looking for a Mustang. And after one was selected, did his FAA-approved dual control modification on it…(for what I thought was surprisingly little money).
I agree with the first reply, ask him for advise. He (and other specialists) usually know where the planes are, if they’re available and what kind of shape they’re in.
PS. If you can predict buying a Mustang in the near future…you have a better broker than mine!!!!:)

Mark Clark and Courtesy are the biggest warbird brokers out there. You should also consider looking at restoration facilities such as Ezell Aviation, Square One Aviation, and American Aero Services, just to name a few.
Are you talking about restoring a plane from scratch, buying a partial restoration and having it finished, or buying a completed airplane?
