Ok, here’s the deal.
i am an idiot. 🙁
I’ve booked up my tickets for this years legends way in advance – brilliant.
I don’t usually go the both days, but this year i have decided to do the whole weekend. Here’s where my stupidity prevails… I havent booked anywhere to stay! I intended to stay at Appleacre park in Fowlmere villiage, and after realising that i perhaps should have rang them i was greeted with a ‘sorry we’re full up, its duxford weekend you know!’ – Cr*p. Silly me, of course it is!
So.. here is my plea. Anyone know any farmers who wouldn’t mind two tiny bell tents on their land near DX for two nights? Of course we wouldn’t be any trouble and will gladly cover costs equal to that of a camp site.
If anyone can help, please let me know.
TIA!
regards,
Chris

Chris
You mention two tents. I live 30 mins south of DX just north of Stevenage. I can accommodate two tents on my lawn. If there are not too many of you we may be able to spare enough beds, 2 singles plus camp bed. PM me with your mobile number if you wish. I will be at DX tomorrow afternoon but will be home early evening.
If you choose to stay here you are not allowed to force me to drink lots. It upsets Mrs Merlin70:rolleyes:

There’s a pub in Fulborn called the White Hart that does B & B if that is any help. Only 10 minute drive from Duxford towards Norwich.

Having found that the British Grand Prix is on at the same time I think you’ll find that a lot of places are/were booked a long time ago and to a great distance from Silverstone – when I was hunting for accommodation the only places in Cambridge were of the £130+ a night type. Believe there is also a large golf tournament on somewhere nearby too…

And the remains of the former airfield at Witchford are right next door. I believe theres a memorial there on the industrial estate.

Thanks James, sounds interesting! i’m glad it’s sorted too…
Incidentally, when is Mr. Patterson gracing us with his presence this weekend? I have yet to meet the chap.

Ely’s got a nice big churchy thingy. You can go and worship a spot on the original full Patterson tour (“You mean Steve really stood here? On this VERY spot?”). Seriously, it’s worth a glance. it’s been there longer than DX by quite a way! There’s even a cannon to defend the church with!
Glad you got sorted. Have a good one.

Ok, first of all Thanks for all your support guys! It’s also nice to know i’m not the first person to do this. I tried ringing more campsite a bit further afield and was starting to feel a little beaten… But, i think i’ll be ok. Found a little site near Ely just north east of Cambridge. Its about 25miles to DX, but thats better than driving all the way from Maidstone in Kent there and back twice! It seems a pretty straight forward journey too. Down the A10, around cambridge to the M11 and then bingo, one gleaming Imperial War Museum with many boys toys to marvel at.
Once again, thank you all for your support and help. This forum proves it’s worth through the generous and helpful people who use it. I’m gald to be part of this community.
I also hope to see some of ou over the weeked.
kind regards,
Chris

Had this problem before.
Try around Royston, and even as far out as Papworth – you might just find something in that area, as its not somewhere people look.
Of course if I still lived in Royston, I would offer you a bed, but I dont, so I cant!

Try Cambridge – it’s not too far, big tourist market, may not be full. You’ll have to pay a bit more though. And it’s just a Q of how far afield you need to go – not if it’s possible.
Don’t worry, you aren’t the first, nor the last to do this!

Chris: You’d better be quick 60 billion people now have the phone number of this B&B. The race is on!
By: BF_Xenomorph - 8th July 2004 at 13:21
Hi,
I don’t know about a campsite but there might be accommodation at a B&B (I cancelled so they still have a place) but it was closer to Braintree (about 30mins from Duxford, I was told). Their number was : 01371 850260. It was quite inexpensive at 16 quid pp pn, too.
Cheers,
BF

You could try the camp site in Great Shelford – (01223) 841185. They are a camping and caravan club site so I dont know if you have to be a member but they do have good facilaties. Good access to Duxford by bus as well if you’re not in a car.
