P.C. lot try to ground PA747

Has anyone heard a very nasty rumor that some political correctness lot want to ground the BBMF Lancaster as a “tribute to world peace”.

They are under the impression that a flying Lancaster seems to make the whole of WW2 ok.

I’m not sure if this is true or not but if these clowns are for reel then this needs to be prevented no matter what.

“I don’t believe that PA474 has ever dropped a bomb in anger.”
Very true, built in mid-1945 she was used for extensive photo aerial mapping of East and South Africa while serving with 82 Squadron in 1948.

WW2 aircraft dont have an FI they are operated on a condition basis.

Think about it, WW2 the Spit’s had the ******** flown off them to keep the UK free if they had an FI each aircraft would only of had a life span of weeks possibly months.

This idea of grounding the Lancaster for that reason is utterly stupid if it is true. I don’t believe that PA474 has ever dropped a bomb in anger.

If the “politically correct” want to ground bombers to further world peace they should start with America’s modern day bomber fleet!

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is still called that on their website.
http://www.raf.mod.uk/bbmf/bbmfhome.html
The story of the grounding of the Lancaster was going around before Sq. Ldr Paul Day took over the flight. At the time cynic’s were suggesting that the way the RAF was being cut there would only be the Red Arrows (fighters) and the Lanc (bomber) left one day. Now even they are under threat again. 🙁

How much fatigue life does ‘474 have left? I understand she was re-sparred a few years back as part of what was termed a ‘mid life update’ !! That should give her at least another 40 years.

I think following the re-spar with current usage the Lanc is expected to out-live oil. 100 years was mentioned somewhere.

Maybe it’s a security issue – you know… after 9/11 etc etc
Strange to pick Pakistan Airlines though I though it was british and american airlines that were under threat. Hmmm….

When have Pakistani Airlines ever done wrong to us?
Seems a bit OTT to ground one of their longhaul fleet at such short notice?!!!!

The BBMf has already changed its name to the Memorial flight. If the Lanc was grounded as some sort of peace gesture it would just be a cover story for MOD cut backs.

Then maybe the suggestion of making the BBMF a private organisation along the lines of the RNHF would get around the PC issue

I wouldn’t have thought so – the BBMF is a military-formed, government backed operation, so any moaning about political-correctness goes to the government and/or RAF.

CWH is an independent body (isn’t it?) so it’s not up to the PC brigade what they do with their Lanc.

If they force ‘474 to be grounded (which they won’t of course because if they do the whole country will go on strike) but if they did, will they also force CWH to ground their Lanc as well?
