Ex Lincolnshire Bomber Base visit

Hi,

as a follow up to my last old airfield visit to Fiskerton, this coming week I am hoping to visit one or maybe two old RAF airbases in Lincolnshire before the Waddingoton Airshow weekend starts.

Anyone have any recommendations of airfields that are well worth visiting or ones that they would even like to see pictures of? Im currently thinking of Bardney perhaps as one.

Anyhow, shall post the pics later in the week all being well.

Best Regards, Steve

ps- whoever it was who wanted footage/sound from the inside of nx611, please let me know, was it you Trumper?

Great ideas for Steve Hatton, but…
I get the impression he only uses public transport.
Tends to limit his options.

yes dhfan, i do only use public transport but im resourceful with buses and not afraid of long walks 🙂 sadly when I was 17 I thought gliding was much more fun than driving and have never felt the need to drive since! 🙂

thanks for everyones replies so far, I think Metheringham is high on my list at the moment and perhaps if I have time for a second, Bardney. Metheringham is somewhere I always see out of the bus window on the way to Coningsby/East Kirkby from Lincoln and so will be no problem to get to.

Hopefully should get some good pictures from the airshow at Waddington to to share.

Damien, yes, continue round the way you got in, and after about a mile, you come to the tower and hangars, well worth the effort I assure you.

Methringham!

Superb visitor centre, but may be weekends only.

If you stick with it at Bardney, though, you will come to a couple of hangars and the tower, which is in very good nick, as it is used by a model aircraft flying club. The signals square is still intact too.

Bardney is well worth a visit, and has a nice memorial in the village too. Spilsby is another good one with quite a lot of it left.

thanks for replies folks.

Peter, Hemswell and Binbrook are a little unfriendly to public services so they are probably off my list. I do have some pictures from hemswell from a couple of years ago that i can put up including the control tower, runway and hangers. Will post up Wednesday or Thursday providing I find them.

I belive Meatheringham has a small museum/visitor centre and some of the original buildings although the airfield has now returned to agriculture. They also have a ghost apparently, The Meatheringham lady.
