HFL visit this Saturday

Does anyone who is also going to this event at DX on Saturday have a timetable for it ??

I seem to recall one was posted on here before (by Robbo I think) but I can’t find it using the search functionality

Any help gratefully received.

Not to mention lunch in the marquee and a flying display……

Does anyone know where the parking is? I assume its not in the public car park as we’ve been issued with parking passes.

Dave,

I’m assuming that there will either be signs up or we will be marshalled the right way – here’s hoping 😉

I don’t want to add fuel to this fire but I would like to correct one mistake here, the fee that I have paid includes both access to the IWM at Duxford and also the HFL hanger. I do not have to pay separately to get into the IWM

You could of course come to the event at Newark i.e Cockpitfest which is a FlyPast sponsored event and enjoy climbing into a few cockpits and seeing some of the BBMF
for considerably less money and then give a donation to charity to make up the difference. The concept of paying to get into the IWM and then paying again to get into ‘Area 51’ doesn’t quite work for me . Maybe they could show people round for a ten pound donation per person and give the money to a worthy cause.

Agreed Dave, IWM has lost its way as far as I am concerned, the beauty of Duxford was that all hangars were accessible including those that house private warbirds. For operators to have their own hangars using valuable real estate on this national treasure and we are not allowed to view without a big fee is very sad. I thought no one was allowed in due to the dreaded H&S?

That aside, still love Duxford, just keep it access all areas

If you would like to go around the HFL hangar for £15, join the Spitfire Society. The Eastern Region went a few months ago and intend going again later in the year. Once you’ve paid your annual or life membership you will be entitled to fill any vacant spaces. Contact Ian Peake 020 8950 2957. Membership Liaison.

If you are happy to wait a few weeks you could sign up at the Society stall at ‘Leg ends’.

JBS, you’re lucky you just caught me before I depart for a few days in deepest Suffolk with no web connection (or electricity)…

Rob

Hands up all those who think he is laying this on rather thick?
Rather think the reason he is out of touch is because the bandages won’t come off for a couple of days…
“Will that be all, Mr Cruise?”;):D:D:D

Well I tried lying in a darkened room and drinking beer to cure me of the P51 syndrome, this didn’t work however so now I need to look for alternatives, the latest scheme involved taking a young lady to the hanger in an efforts to be told they are nasty noisy horrible things and that I shouldn’t go anywhere near them however all she said was they look nice and that she could see the attraction, I am however banned from ever wearing a flying suit in her company. So Dr Digby what is the next stage in my treatment?
By the way if anyone would really like to look inside a hanger the doors will be open at 6pm tonight and I will be on hand to accept a £55 donation

Yak 11 only 55 quid for an evenings session for two have you got some kind of medical complaint and are on the wagon so to speak, that wouldn’t even get my tonsils wet. But liking P51s must be making you soft. But 55 notes to go round any hangar makes me wonder as to the sanity of some folks 😀 😀 😀

I can see your point of view jbs, I have to spend most of the weekend at a wedding (not mine I will add) with the new Mrs Yak 11 Fan however so there will be no aviation in my life at all. Perhaps I will spend every evening in the hanger this week instead just to make up for it all.

Hmm,

55 quid to watch a Spitfire undercart go up and down?

Not even if they let me pull the lever.

I much prefer the idea of an hour and a half over East Anglia in my PA22.

Still, it would be a boring world if we all liked the same things.

All I will say is that if it weren’t for this event there is very little chance I would get the chance to have a tour around the HFL hanger so I was quite happy to part with my £55.00

Is it going to be worth the money ?

I think so, and to be honest I’m going to make sure I make the most of the whole day

I’ll even post some piccies on here afterwards 😉
