Webmaster: Your search function

Try this at home folks:

Select Search and then Advanced Search
Search on the word “legends”.
Select Find posts from [6 Months Ago] [and older]
Select the [Historic] forum.

Now surely there should be some posts between 4th March 2003 and 10th Nov 2003? I couldn’t see any.

Is it me or does our friendly Webmaster need to fix something here? There have been many complaints about this, but I don’t see anything being done about fixing it. Maybe I’ve missed the discussion on this – I couldn’t be bothered to search to see if I have!!

But maybe it was Nermals interaction that aroused the Webmasters interest?;)

Bummer!
Thanks for coming back to us on that Webbie. It will be really worthwhile. This forum makes such a great archive. I’m sure all will agree with me.

I’ll take back what I said about Nermal too – for the time being. 🙂

The search index has corrupted, I am in the process of re-building it, but it takes rather a long time, so please be patient.

Put in a few extremely strong innuendoes or really slag someone off and you will soon find out;) – Nermal

Well done Flood. The PM was an obvious action. I was just curious as to whether he was reading what we were writing. QED?

Thank you Webbie for recognising that there is a problem and taking action to get it fixed.

I pm’d the webmaster (anyone think of that?) about the old Protuka thread (now found) at 00:20, 8/6:-

I have searched by name (aircraft, mine and actors), publications, location, manufacturer – but it will not bring anything up.
I cannot go back through my posts since it only gives the last 500 – roughly a month for me…

Flood

and got this reply at 15:02, 9/6:-

We are looking it the search issue, it is to do with the indexes and require some time to be rebuilt, so i ask you to bare with us.

WebMaster

Having previously asked about queries that had already been found I feel at last vindicated to be bothering him for something that is actually a problem!
Now if I could only pin him down to a real date for the introduction of moderators…;)

Yes, I know – I was just a little frustrated because the database crashed as I went to post that message.

Maybe we should go back to the old forum with a reliable search engine but which had the tendancy to crash every couple of days. I did my first search yesterday and got it to work, perhaps it was just beginners luck.

Janie – you don’t need to run a website to get it top of the list. Anyone who’s got a website can contribute to getting pages ranked top. Like, if we wanted to get this page to come up top for a search on Unreliable Forum, it would just need about a dozen people or so to link it as such on their websites, and bingo! it will come top of your Google searches for that. (there’s another idea for a way to get Webbie’s attention ;))

Except that “out of touch executives” is Google’s own website!

Anyway, it looks like our friendly Webmaster has ignored our pleas for an improved search facility. It’s time for the peasants to revolt. Does anyone have any cunning plans to get his attention? Mine would be too devious to print here.

That’s a bit impish of the chaps at google.

It’s not actually Google, it’s just people who know how to fool the Google ranking technique.

It’s abolutely hopeless.
There was a thread recently about BofB books. I would have added that I’ve just found a copy of the Leonard Mosley paperback in my Mum’s garage, (it’s been there over 25 years), but as I can’t find the thread I shan’t bother.
