Since the Airbourne Forces Museum closed at Aldershot in December 2007 it was thought that Dakota KP208 was going with the rest of the collection to Duxford and come in from 30+ years outside. The local paper here now says it going to the Paras barracks in Colchester via a refurbishment at St Athan. So it is once again it is sadly destined to be outside again for who knows hows long? The Dak had its wings removed a couple of weeks ago and the paper says it will be moving in a month or so. Is it only me or would this fill a big gap at Hendon?

Well I know that there has been much debate on this forum concerning the state of the RAFM buildings at Hendon, but I was unaware that a big gap had started to form in those. I think that it would be better to tackle the problem with traditional building materials. It maybe that the Army doesn’t really want KP208 but I think that it’s a bit drastic to use an historic aeroplane, whatever its condition might be after 30 plus years outside in Aldershot, to fill this big gap at Hendon. Bricks, mortar, cement or even Polyfilla would seem a better bet!
