Flying Legends – Forum Meet?

Is it too early to start to think about the above and whether there will be a Forum meet on either/both days? I was not a Forum member this time last year and hence don’t know what happens. It would be great to meet some of you at last as my forays into the aviation world have been limited of late (ie NIL). Apologies if this is a) a boring question b) too early to be asking it or c) both.

I would like to be there, but it depends on getting a lift, and if the stand-in carer is available to cover for me. Should have a better idea nearer the time.

Geoff.

I shall be up for a meet (Saturday only, though) as it’s my first Legends! 🙂

I am sure Neil will be there in spirit this year and every year,It will be a honour to Toast him in a drink.
I think i speak for most people when i say Legends will have mixed emotions for all who were there last year and saw what happened.

Thanks guys.. and don’t feel bad about being excited about Legends 2004. You can bet that Neil would have been even if he was not down to fly this year (he would have been in the crowd instead I suspect). Neil and I attended Legends 2001 and 2002 together and we had a great time. So drink up and have fun 🙂

Right to left: Neil, me, and a group of “online” friends. We all played an online game/flightsim called “Warbirds”. As you can see, we were having a good time. This was at Legends 2002. Three weeks later I moved to the States.

If there is a Legends meet at Duxford this year, please do me a favour… Have a beer for Neil. I know he would have appreciated that.

Paul, it would be an honour to do so sir.

Paul, I’ll have a drink to Neil and I’ll give him a wave too, just as he gave us as they taxied past.

I will too Paul. And I’ll raise it with the round that I owe to a Scotsman DFC. That will be our toast.

Will do Paul. I can’t help feeling slightly sombre at the fact we are all raving that Legends is nearly upon us, yet for you it must be a difficult time.
I will endeavour to raise a pint of finest Spitfire ale for your brother.
My thoughts are with you and your family.

We’ll be there on Saturday, but it probably is a bit previous to start plotting for a meet.

I know a nice young lady with a key! 😀

Mrs. Patterson and I will be there, along with Andy and Vanessa (both in Bed).

Just got back from flying the T-6. I was at this nice little airport visiting some friends when a line of thunderstorms rolled in. We all stood around watching for about 5 minutes, thinking that the storms will miss us. Hmmm, getting kinda close. That’s pretty dark. Then a nice lady from the tower told us that tornados had been spotted 10 miles away. Remember the line from BOB? “Well, don’t just stand there…get one up!” That’s what we did as three airplanes made a mad dash for home.

How do you land a T-6 in a 30 knot crosswind?

Any way you can.

It wasn’t my best, but she’s home in the hanger. That’ll teach me to keep a closer eye on Springtime weather.

Yes but apparently they’ll all be locked up to prevent a certain Mr Patterson sneaking away with one… 😉

Aren’t there a few just down the road?

That’s the easy bit. 🙂

Probably a bit early. However, i’ll plug my memorial at the same time if you don’t mind!

At 9am in the garden of the Red Lion Hotel at Whittlesford on Sunday 11th July there will be the unveiling of a memorial bench commemorating F/Lt Francois de Spirlet, a Belgian pilot and Flight Commander in 609 (West Riding) Squadron, who was killed in a take off accident at Duxford on 26th June 1942. There will be veterans from 609 in attendance, along with a contingent of current members of both 609 Squadron at RAF Leeming and the Belgian Air Force. Perhaps also some Belgian veterans from other squadrons. And Air Commodore William de Goat too.

You are all invited to attend. Breakfasts may be a possibility at the hotel for those of you planning an early start. You may then recognise some faces later in the day…..

Now, anyone know where I can scrounge a Spit or Hurri for a quick flyover? Ian?
