I wasn’t there for Wings & Strings, just the RR event.
It was a good day. The display changed a fair bit from the list.
The first was a South African Airways 747. Limited airspace at Donington but I see what the comments from the Duxford display last year meant now. Flew in from Jo’burg yesterday on a scheduled flight and was going back, last night I think.
Next Hawker Hind,
RR MkXIX Spitfire and a Mustang,
Hawk x 2
VC10 and 3 Jaguars,
Hunter,
5 x Spitfires, arrived in formation – nice,
BBMF Lanc and a Spitfire,
BMI Fokker 100,
RN Lynx pair,
Tornado F3,
Falcon parachute drop (apparently – I didn’t see them),
Sea Harrier,
DHL Boeing 757,
Gnat,
Red Arrows.
No ID’s on anything. I wasn’t expecting a full display programme so no bino’s or SLR.

I saw the model turbine-powered Vulcan up close there. I think the whole cockpit area is too big and that’s why it looks wrong. Similar sized Valiant under construction too.

Thanks, DaveB.

Well, it looks like I’ve got my sister well trained in aircraft recognition then. Good gal! 😀

5 Spits flew up from Duxford – TFC Mk.XIV (MV293) and Mk.V (EP120), OFMC Mk.IX (MH434), and HFL Mk.XVI (TD248) and Mk.XIV (RN201).

Anyone go?

My sister e-mailed me to say she saw a Dakota flying low over my other sister’s house, and also 5*Spitfires. 🙂
She lives in Loughborough, which is not far from Donington Park.

Not a bad representation for the main Rolls Royce Centenary event, which also included a Rolls Royce car show.

The ‘Wings and Strings’ follows this evening.

The aircraft listing looks quite good: http://www.wingsandstrings.org.uk/pages/aircraft.shtml
