OK What the heck is this thing!!!!1

Hi all

Along with all my scanning I often get some outlandish and interesting one off photos. I have had this shot for quite a while and I was wondering if any of you UK buffs can identify it for me. It may not be the ugliest aircraft I have ever seen but it has to be in the running. This is probably the reason that it was sent to Australia where it served as an airliner ? I know this is not a warbird but I thought it was interesting.

Kindest regards
John Parker

But the Seamew was ugly…

And so was the Avro Bison II (from 423Flt on HMS Argus, 1925-26).

This is a Blackburn Blackburn II of 422Flt on HMS Eagle in 1926. Ugly, isn’t it.

So good they named it twice 😀 , it has to have one of the best names in aviation history, possibly second only to the Beardmore Inflexible :p

Ugly???? You will stary calling Short Seamews ugly next 😮

I think it’s some sort of Blackburn aircraft but will have to check overnight. It looks like one of their early types.

I know what you mean – I looked into that idea, but scrubbed it when comparing the tailplane…

The following link tells us it was nicknamed “The Flying Pig” and cost £3,500!

I can’t believe this ugly thing was a succesfull flying plane. I don’t think pigs can fly properly 😉 .

What wonderful-looking, but hugely inefficient design.

This makes excellent reading.

Found a picture of G-EBLB on a history page… (see link)
