East Sussex Aviation Museum

Has anyone else had the opportunity to visit the Avaiton and Wartime museum at Point Clear, St Osyth, Clacton? Although it doesn’t contain complete aircraft it’s full of interesting artefacts from crashed WWII aircraft both Allied and Axis including the front section (from spinner to just rear of the cockpit) of a P51, 49th FG that was recovered from the sea off Clacton after being forced to ditch due to danage sustained in combat in January ’45. The number of exhibits is truly outstanding and the Museum being housed in an 1805 Martello Tower gives it a really special atmosphere, and even better the admission is free!!.

Well worth the visit if you’re in the area
I would be interested to hear the views of others who have been there. 🙂

no problem – I wasn’t being funny but I was thinking of the embarrasment of people asking for the Sussex museum in Essex. I lived in Suffolk for many years and Essex was ‘foreign’. I suspect many in Essex have not heard of Sussex!

Has Clacton moved to Sussex from its former place in Essex?
