Lee-On-Solent Catalinas

Having seen the pictures of the North Weald Cat and the recent arrival of the new Duxford Cat, I was wondering if there was any news on the 2 Cats based here in Hampshire I know the ex-Greenpeace on was airworthy when it arrived but I’m guessing it has not flown since? So has any one heard any news? It would be nice to see two or three flying around! I think I remember 2 at Legends a few years ago?

Stringbag,

yes there is a hovershow held at Lee on Solent every few years – we were involved with the last one in that we moved both PBY’s into the display area and allowed people to go onboard. This attracted a lot of visitors to the show although the weather was poor for much of the time. It is also the only time that the public can get access to the hovercraft as it is not usually open to the public

Solentspotter, let me know when you are back from uni and I can arrange a visit

Paul,

Is there a Hover show or something similiar held at Lee-on-Solent every so often?
I seem to recall an event advertised a couple of years ago, but cannot remember where.

They are both still there (well they were last weekend) – as a volunteer since 1998 it has been a lot of fun but very frustrating. It is very expensive to try and restore an aircraft from such a poor state and to operate it is beyond the owners reach at the moment. We do what we can to look after both but money is always going to be a problem. I can arrange visits if anybody is interested.
