A gent on the WIX forum posted a bunch of photos from the 50s of Canadian aircraft.
One photo really threw me for a loop. Can someone explain this Sea Fury variant? I’ve never seen that look before

Hi as the gent who posted I can say that the feedback from accross the fprums on this photo seems to confirm that this is at Radlett for the 1947 SBAC show and is a Hawker fgury – Napier Sabre – history to follow – apparently it was evern air raced!!

A Clue.
I think the ‘HAN…dley Page’ written big and bold on the hangar door is a bit of a clue. 😉

That’s definately Radlett as that’s “Fred’s Shed” in the background.

Ooops!
Dan,
On second thoughts the shot I posted of the Spitfire Racer shows the Centaurus ‘twin’ in the same livery as VP207 and indeed is to the rear of your query photo.
My shot was a small very low grade copy and didn’t spot the exhaust. I will keep searching.

I think the photo is of one of the Fury prototypes. It was powered by a Sabre V or VI and had 3000hp on tap. This aircraft was the fastest of all the Hawker piston powered aircraft. I do not have my references with me at present but I can supply more details if you wish.

Dan,
A Google on ‘VP207 Hawker’:-
“Another Fury prototype was VP207, completed from stock parts after the war in ca.1947 and flown with a Napier Sabre VII engine.”
I have this aircraft in the back ground of Spitfire shots at the Lympne Air Races on 28 August 1948 and I think it was at the Radlett SBAC show in 1947 – not from personal memory of course. 🙂

This is the proposed prototype RAF version of the sea fury. It was simply the “Hawker Fury”. The RAF decided not to order it because of the advances in jet technology.
This aircrafts airframe is similar to the Iraqi Single Seater ISS version, having fixed wings. The main difference being the engine and cooling.

Not sure of the true type but I’d say it was at Radlett for an SBAC display – which would mean a look in John Blake’s book on the SBAC’s displays may be worth a look.
