One News (TVNZ) just had an item on the last day of the Wanaka airshow where Keith Skilling and Ray Hanna were featured. The report stated that although today’s display was the last for the Brietling team, they are to reunite next year for a film which is to be made about female Russian fighter pilots!
I wonder if a certain number of Ratas and Chaikas, and maybe even an LA-9 and a Yak 3 might also appear. Maybe NZ’s first aviation film coming up? (if you don’t count that crap Disney thing with the Bristol Freighter in, The Rescue).
Pure speculation on my part of course that it will take place in NZ, but it makes sense when we have all the best aircraft and the best film makers. Oh, and the very Russian-looking tundra of Central Otago too.;)
Also on TV3 News they showed some footage recently filmed for this year’s official video – and they stated that it’s thought to be the first time ever that a Sopwith Camel and a Spitfire have been filmed or photographed flying together! Can anyone disprove this? The footage looked stunning. I am definately going to buy the video this year!

Do you mean two women pilots falling for the same bloke, fighting it out and then one dies at the end? Hmmm.
If it were to be made in NZ at least it wouldn’t be ‘Hollywood’. I hope it is going to be made here.

Seriously, though, this sounds interesting. Surprised something similar hasn’t been done before – just so long as it doesn’t follow a similar thread….!!

The poor Spitfire seemed to be at near stall speed just to allow the Camel to keep up! I beleive that the Camel belongs to Peter Jackson by the way.
There were one or two vertical shots from above which made the scene look very nive, two green planes against the lush green pasture, and the big old roundels on each.
