Did FlyPast recently publish an article by Dopey Edwards about failing to fly under bridges in WWII with his co-pilot Bill Tacon?
In the May 2004 issue of “The Aeroplane” in Part 6 of Peace & War at page 57 he writes that he did not fly under the Tay Bridge & the Haugesund bridge in Norway, having chickened out of each at the last possible moment. I am sure I have read a similar article by him recently. Was it in FlyPast? If not, does anyone remember where & when it was published ?

Many thanlks
Thank you to the correspondent who suggested to me to write to Dopey Edwards c/o “The Aeroplane”
I received a prompt reply to my inquiry & the answer was that it appeared in the March issue of “The Oldie”
It was a more detailed account of the bridge problems than appeared in “The Aeroplane”
The reason for my puzzlement was that I knew I had read the article & searched in aviation magazines for it.
I had completely forgotten that it was published in a non-aviation magazine.
I recommend the article to anyone whon can obtain the March issue of “The Oldie”
Thanks again to my correspondent & apologies to him for having forgotten his name.

Hi Nick,
I’ve bought every copy of Flypast for about the last 18 months and I don’t recall anything by ‘Dopey’ being in them. That’s not to say there wasn’t something, but nothing springs to mind.
I’ve really enjoyed his articles in Aeroplane over the last few months,it’s a shame they’ve come to an end.
