Hi Guys
Has anyone been to the air museum at Sunderland lately? I am interested in information and pics of the lancaster wreckage that they have. Apparently it was a canadian Lancaster and crashed while trying to reach Middleton St George.

Has anyone been to North East Aircraft Museum??
During excavations near Mcmullan Rd Darlington for new housing in the late Eighties, small items of aircraft wreckage was uncovered. I was a member of NEAM @ the time, the wreckage was from a Lancaster from Middleton St George,(early 1945,engine problems?) the pilots name was Mcmullan (Canadian squadron?),I think that he was killed in the crash,it was believed @ the time that he stayed with the plane to avoid crashing into existing houses. The Rd was named in his honour. The small items recovered were placed on a memorial board, a memorial board was later sent to his relative in Canada. The original board may now be in another local museum.
I will be visiting NEAM next week & will confirm this information then

NEAM
I went in May 2002, I don’t remember any Lancaster wreckage there though.
Some photos from the visit can be found at http://www.museum-explorer.org.uk/museum-explorer/site_details_return.php?museum=97#183

I wouldn’t say I’ve never been there, I just don’t remember any Lancaster wreckage.
However it was six or seven years ago, and I wasn’t impressed with the museum.
