….Brewster built Corsairs left in the world? Before we get too deep into all this, I should tell you that I KNOW the answer to this question before I ask it…but I want to see what you all come up with…I’ll explain my reasoning later.

Well, the fact of the matter is I have been asked not to reveal any of the details of the existence of a Brewster Corsair…but yes, one does exist and let’s leave it at that…and maybe, someday, it may actually fly…obviously complications could arise if the US Navy got aggressive enough and wanted the plane back. I have photos of the craft and know who the owner(s) are but cannot reveal this TOP SECRET and CLASSIFIED information….and should I actually reveal this information to any of you, I should then have to hunt both you and your little dog down, also…
The Corsair DVD that BlueNoser (wassup, bud?) talks about is from the ‘Corsair Gathering’ of 2 summers ago and is being finalized in Atlanta by my friend Mike Schneider…should any of you be curious about it, visit www.f4ucorsair.com for more info…it should be coming out soon and promises to be well worth the money!

“As to the complete Brewster Corsair, isnt this the one sitting on the bottom of Lake Michigan , that the US Navy will not allow to be recovered
Any way just a guess !!

Even if this story is true, being a Brewster-built example it’s doubtful whether it would be WORTH recovering! A large proportion of the Brewster-built machines (called F3A’s) were allegedly of very poor build quality and were unreliable in service. IIRC,very few or perhaps even none served with the USN/USMC and all were passed on to the Royal Navy. Brewster were also failing to meet production targets and Brewster’s Corsair production was wound up after only a year or so (did the company come to an end at the same time??).
It’s been said that an investigation into Brewster’s problems was launched by the FBI as there were rumours of spies and fifth columnists being involved in sabotage and other ‘dirty tricks’ to disrupt production.

The Brewster tail cone is with Charles Osborne, and was used in the restoration of his ex Salvador FG-1 Corsair.
