Something to get your teeth into. My grandad was ground crew / ambalance driver at Oakington with 7 sqn from I believe mid 1942 to 1945. I did have a pic of him in front of a wellington (pic now lost), I do have and will post tonight a pic of the entire sqn groundcrew on a Lancaster. What I am hoping to do for my Grandad for his birthday, is to put together a booklet or folder about the sqn and airfield.
Now I know their are books about the Stirling (7 being first sqn) and the Path Finder Force. I was wondering if their any books or information just about the sqn or the airfield.
Oakington is still there near Cambridge, the accomodation and offices are now a Refugee centre, the runways have gone but the perimiter road and the hangers are still there. The perimiter track is used for motor rallies 4 / 5 times a year (which I help out at).
Any information received would be used souly for this project.
Just 1 last thing my Grandads surname is Packard – and yes he is related to the American Packards who built cars & Aero engines!
Thank you in advance.

You might like to check with the webmaster of the 7 Sqdn Assoc website if the contact details for the secretary above are current as I don’t know how recent that information is.
Maybe you will find some info from the above contacts.
Good luck

David.
It is possible, with the permission of your grandad to get a copy of his personnel file from RAF at Innsworth.
I realise this might spoil any surprise you intend, but it is a really fascinating document and well worth the few quid it costs to have it copied and mailed to you.
The contact details for Innsworth have been posted on this site before now so can possibly be searched for, otherwise I may be able to provide more info once I’m at home amongst my reference books rather than here at work.
Welcome.
I’m sure you will be innundated with information from the other guys here. We are a friendly lot 😉
