Attached is a list of some of the books in my personal library that I think would contain the sort of information you are looking for. Of course “On Silver Wings” is the best, IMHO, I have most of the articles from it that were published in the AM magazine.
Bergen is a much more beautiful place than Gothenburg, so I could perhaps take a trip up there again this summer. Have a you an aviation museum nearby?

Thanks for the link and another picture I haven´t seen before. I´m not residing in Sweden btw, but in Norway. Bergen to be exact ( the wrong side of Norway ). I appreciate you offering to lend me some of your books. It´s a long way to Göteborg though ( a lovely city btw ). But I´ll happily take any recommendation you, or anyone else, have on books dealing with military aircraft ( of all nationalities ) produced and in service during the inter-war years.

Another scan, this time from “The Encyclopaedia of British Military Aircraft” page 71 – the cockpit area seems to be silver like the rest of the plain parts of the fuselage.
If you are in Sweden you could borrow some books from my fairly extensive library. Come down (up?) to Göteborg one day! PM me to pursue that thought.

And thanks for the great picture Papa Lima ( and sorry about accusing you of being Swedish btw ). It´s a 25th Sqn Grebe isn´t it ? I know the stripes along the fuselage are black, but do you happen to know the colour used on the area around the cockpit ?

See if you can get your hands on Osprey publishings ‘On Silver Wings’ by Owen Thetford & Alex Lumsden. It’s a wonderful book on inter war RAF fighters with lots of photos and some drawings taken from APs. If you can’t find that see if you can find the Dec 1990, Jan 1991 editions of the magazine that can’t be named (Aer*plane Monthly) where the articles which went on to become the book were first published.

Designed as a single-seat interceptor the Grebe II in the photo was designed to AM Spec. 37/23, powered by an AS Jaguar IV 14-cylinder radial. All wood construction with fabric covering, span 29 ft 4 in, length 20 ft 3 in, height 9 ft 3 in, wing area 254 sq ft.
Max speed 162 mph at sea level, climb to 20 000 ft in 24 min, service ceiling 23 500 ft, normal range approx 310 miles.
Armed with 2 fixed synchronised 0.303 Vickers Mk 1 machine guns, 600 rounds per gun.
4 prototypes, first flew May 1923. 108 Mk II fighters built, 21 Mk IIIDC trainers built. Served with 19, 25, 29, 32, 56 and 111 Sqns.
