Fairly chuffed!

As some of you will know, I’m attempting to write a Battle of Britain-based novel, and it’s very tricky to say the least when trying to make it realistic (and some of my writers’ group chums say it is jolly good anyway!).

Anyway, I’ve received a letter this morning from one Mr Geoffrey Wellum, who’d be interested in looking over some of my work to give it his approval!

🙂

And yet he is so self effacing. That’s probably why it took him so long to write his book. Let’s hope he has at least one other book in him.

Nice one Daz,I’d be chuffed too if I were in your shoes. I finished First Light a few weeks ago and I reckon it’s one of the best aviation biogs of all time.Despite all the vivid accounts of dogfights and the like,I have to say my favourite part of the book was the chapter ‘Convoy Pair’ in which he flies through atrocious weather, loses radio contact with the ground and his leader and yet still manages to engage the Ju88 they were sent up to intercept.I won’t spoil it for you by relating what happens from then on,but when you consider what he was up against on that day you realise what a good pilot the bloke really was.

I am reading, very slowly, through First Light (As I’m enjoying it so much I’m in no rush to finish it.)

To date my favourite bit is the photograph of the four Spitfire scramble. All the others are just about on the ground, or barely airborne.

No 2 has got his gear in its wells.

Go get’em boy!

IIRC he became a test pilot following his Malta stint.

First Lightwould make a kick-ass film, I reckon. Mr Spielberg, if you’re reading….! 😉

i read First Light about a year ago it is very good. I get the feeling that he left it open for another book, does anybody know if theirs one on the cards or is it just wishful thinking on my part?

Nearly finished reading “First Light”. A cracking read, one of the best I’ve ever come across regarding how it must have been. You can’t go too far wrong with Mr Wellum’s input.
