Hi
Many years ago (about 1980) an elderly man called ****y Martin flew the Shuttleworth’s clipped wing Spit AR501 down to Culdrose Air Day. I remember my Dad telling me he was a wartime Spit pilot and I ran off to get his autograph (I was only 8 at the time).
Does ****y Martin still attend the Shuttleworth displays/associates himself with that aircraft – I am guessing he no longer flies for them anymore?
Any info would be of interest.
Thanks
Nick

Hi Folks,
D1cky Martin was Chief Test Pilot for Glosters, and arraned for Glosters to donate the Gladiator to Shuttleworth before they closed down. He was a long term pilot for Old Warden (I think chief?) and in my book is probably the only person to fly a Spit weating NHS Specs. I think he retired in the late eighties / early nineties. (Just realised there’s a full bio in ‘From Bleriot to Spitfire’. Rats.)
Cheers

There once was an amusing post on pprune not so long ago where the author described a tragic incident nr S****horpe, making frequent references to S****horpe. Half of it therefore got censored and given the incident circumstances, shouldn’t have been funny but the censorship turned it around to a farce. 🙂

I seem to recall in one of Jeremy Flack’s Spitfire books a Wg. Cdr. D!cky Martin – he had a ‘tache and wore glasses, if I remember rightly.
If it is him, I could try and post the photo.
