Shot this one near Las Vegas. It looks like a Vampre/Venom converted into something “bigger”. Work was done with the intention to fly it, so it was a serious conversion. Anybody knows the story behind it ? BW Roger

Lastly, here is a spec sheet from the advertising pack.
I hope it comes out OK!

I think this must be the Aviation Traders mock up. For the North Weald fans – this ended its days behind the Aces High hangar, some 10 years ago. It never got much past this stage. We had some tools and bits and bobs of it at the museum at one point, but I didnt consider them worth keeping.

No, I mean the T35 – the Australian 2 seat trainer.
Anyway, here is one of a couple of publicity shots I have:

Aviation Traders had a similer venture at ‘Mock Up’ stage using surplus Vampire T.11 donors at Southend circa 1969.

Interesting. I think it looks rather sexy! Certainly a change from your usual LearJet type biz jet.

I presume you mean a T55, the export version of the RAF’s T11?

Aha – the mystery jet!
This is nothing to do with DH – this particular one was done in the USA, but never flown, and never completed. It is a conversion of a RAAF T35
I have a catalogue somewhere – I will see if I can scan it and post it!

De Havilland did have plans to produce a ‘business jet’ version of the Vampire (as did Hawker with the Hunter incidentally) but I don’t know if it ever came to anything.
Is that what this is maybe, or a modern day version of the same concept?
