Hi Steve
Yes, they have a Merlin II or III from a crash, but I am not sure whether they will be using that one or not as they have several Merlins. They are planning to ground run it – the last time I paid them a visit was about 1 1/2 years ago – i’m sure the fuselage must be almost done by now.
They have the remains of an early Hurri wing that came from the yard at Chippenham and the wings are being built for them in Malta in exchange for wreckage. The Maltese also made them an absolutely beautiful replica of a Watt’s prop (weighs a ton!).

but I heard he’s using an engine block from a crash site? Doesn’t sound very wise to me…
Steve
I’m surprised that you think a crash site engines are not sensible to use ?
Especially give the ‘donor’ aircraft of this one below!

Hurricane…
I went there at the end of last year to buy some Typhoon parts that he happened to have. They seem to have made very good progress. The centre section, fuselage etc basically complete (and it seems to a very good quality work). They were working on a Merlin at the back of the workshop when I was there and it didn’t look crash damaged to me…although I think they have more than one. They have a number of tail sections and they also have at least one other centre section sitting in the workshop!!! I believe that they have an early set of wings that are at another location ready to be mated to the fuselage but they need to move it before these can be attached…

Last summer he posted a few leaflets in the local shops advertising an open day, which I was quite interested in going to (for the same reasons as trumper by the sounds of it), but when I turned up there were no signs of life.
Interesting to read the comments above, I heard much the same a while back. If your face fits, etc… Word is that the project is supposed to be to a ground running condition, but I heard he’s using an engine block from a crash site? Doesn’t sound very wise to me…

I went there a couple of times to help out, however I had a few problems with transport soon afterwards and the guy got very rude with me. Did find it interesting though that he was talking to me about good friends of mine who could supply components but had no interest in anything that I may have been able to do to help. Funny old world.
