Just rented ‘Dark Blue World’ for the second time, and have decided I like it enought to buy it now…a decent story, some great flying, some borrowed clips from ‘Battle of Britain’ and ‘Memphis Belle’ thrown in, and a number of great video clips of Hanna and Lamplough zinging Spitfires low over the countryside…the trainbusting scene was great but short…all in all a very good movie, worth the $25 it’ll cost over here to pick it up on DVD, but the DVD has extras that the tape did’nt….
Also the other day picked up (for $2.50) ‘Air America’, a great aviation flick with plenty of humor in it and some more great (and unconventional) flying, a very underrated movie if you like airplanes and Mel Gibson/Robert Downey Jr. (and check out the great Art Lafleur as the pilot obsessed with the ‘Golden Beebee’)…the ending is classic and the whole movie was very well done…and rumor has it that Gibson/Downey Jr. are working on another flick together…..

…and also the scene right at the beginning where the Catalina is taking off on the water while the 2 fisherman are fishing in the boat oblivious to them being on the amphibian’s runway !!!
It’s a great movie and anyone here at the forum would love it !!

What was his line just before he got ‘bombed’? “Ah…..Nuts!” while laughing, then BOOOSSHH!!!! Covered in fire retardant….hilarious! A highly recommended movie, ‘Always’…sent it to a friend of mine in the UK who had never seen it before, he loved it….

Tuskegee Airman is another goodie,..great Stearman, T-6 and P-51 scenes. Good storyline and with real credibility as based on a true story (obviously).
But yes always is good, esp when John Goodman gets covered in Red dye from the ‘119. Just about wet myself laughing. That guy is a true comic !!!

Thoroughly love ‘Always’, the movie that got me to learn to fly…Goodman and Dreyfuss are hilarious, and I liked the story, even the romance…Holly Hunter was great too…SO MANY good movies out there….

I have to agree and say Air America is great !!
Also another good flick is “Always” starring John Goodman & Richard Dreyfuss…some great A-26 and Catalina flying as well as a C-119 dropping fire retardant…sure the love story is a bit gooey but the flying scenes are worth the effort !!
But if you love B-36’s & B-47’sget get get get Strategic Air Command !!!
A worthwhile classic !!!
The takeoff scene with the B-36 still leaves me with goosebumps everytime I see it :p
Cheers
