Lost airfields?

In ‘Enemy Coast Ahead’, Guy Gibson talks about a squadron aircraft landing at “an aerodrome near Morpeth”. He later talks about a raid by Heinkels which destroyed all the hangars at this base sometime in early 1940. None of the airfields around Newcastle upon Tyne (Acklington,Felton,Tranwell)have anything like this recorded. Maybe my research is wrong or there is another airfield now lost? Was Gibson talking about another area in the country? I’m researching a book on airfields in the North East and this is a stumbling block.

Any ideas?????

Although it’s nowhere near Morpeth, is it possible Gibson was referring to Driffield which was bombed during the raid on 15 August 1940? I can’t recall off-hand how bad the damage there was, but is this perhaps a possibility for what he was meaning?
