Maybe not. Although D-C will be digging up the old concrete runway, they have promised to put in a grass strip for us, which is probably better for the museum as at our fly-ins we can then get more older aircraft and taildraggers etc. coming in. Also it will be good if ever the museum wanted to fly, or fast taxi any of their older aircraft. However this grass strip may not appear for a couple of years, so maybe the odd helicopter popping in for the time being.

I’m guessing that will mean the end of all the flying on the site aswell?? 🙁

Yes. Once the Vanguard is moved it will not be taxied again. won’t be able to taxi in the new position, and the old concrete runway will be dug up when D-C move in.

Thanks for the explanation Steve, glad there’s method in the madness afterall.I’m guessing the move into the car park will prevent her from taxiing even if she is still ground run?

Basically, the land that the Vanguard and VC10 are on (the old airfield) is not owned by the museum. Daimler-Chrysler are buying the land and redeveloping it, meaning the aircraft have to be moved into the museum. Hopefully, once the aircraft is moved we will still be able to do engine runs, but have to wait a couple of months to see what happens.

I was going to say the same thing as Doughnut. What’s the sense in moving her to a location where she can’t be ground run??

Hi Steve as you are obvious connected with the Vanguard can you tell us why she has to be moved?

No decision has been made as to whether engine runs can take place once the aircraft is moved. Most of the airliners will be going in the car park so it depends how close the other aircraft are and what is directly behind it. Detailed plans have not been made yet, but it is hoped they will put it somewhere where engine runs can take place.

However, there it still a couple of months until the aircraft is moved (probably April sometime), so hopefully we can do a few engine runs before then.

Hi Steve,
First and foremost,welcome aboard! 🙂
Glad to hear the Vanguard is still being run,I’ve yet to see her in action.I’d be grateful if you’d post the engine-run/taxi dates as Brooklands is on my list of ‘must see’ museums this year and it would be great to see the Vanguard run.
Just out of interest, what will the aircraft’s movement over to the car park mean-will she still be as regularly run over there?

Cool pics Andrew,thnaks for sharing.

Great pics, Andrew, thanks a lot! Nice to see that the Hunter has been restored in its original RDanAF colours, got any more pics of that one by chance?

In answer to earlier questions, Vanguard is still run up quite often, every month or so, last time was 13th December. Hope to run it in the next few weeks, if anyone is interested I can post the dates on here. Hope to taxi it up and down the runway as well before it is moved across the river into the car park.

Bleriot is still on its trailer after being at Fairford and Halton earlier in the year. Has been taken off a couple of times and the engine run, but lack of room to display it means it is stuck on the trailer at the moment.
