Thanks for that guys, I should have pics somewhere, buried in unsorted boxes of all my other aircraft & automotive pics. One day I might come across them.

Adrian Reynard and partner acquired the Mk VIII MT719/I-SPIT from Franco Actis and flew it in the same 17 Sqd. markings as G-VIII. With the pressure of Formula One car racing aspirations the aircraft was sold to the US.

Adrian Reynard and partner also acquired SM845 from the US. A former Indian A/F project machine they commissioned a restoration at HFL but ended up disposing of their interest, to HFL, before completion.

That would be the mkVIII then MT719 registered to Reynard Racing Cars Ltd as G-VIII. The XVIII had passed to Historic Flying by the time it flew.

We’re forgetting one very obvious SEAC-wearing aircraft, BBMF Hurricane PZ865.

Yep. Not taken by me but I did the paint scheme. It is 152 Squadron.

In fact because the aircraft was lost so soon after painting, the BBMF used the artwork and detail for the past seasons scheme on PS915. This is currently being changed for 2004 season.

The flying Spitfire at the D*ck Melton open day at Popham sometime ’89-’91 had a small plaque riveted on the inside of the cockpit door that read something like ‘owned by Raynard Motorsports’ & I dont think it was a Mk XVIII

This one, SM845, the other Reynard Spitfire.

This is the only time I have been invited to take air to air photos on a first post restoration flight.

Usually quite a tense moment but no problem for the Cranfield Chief Test Pilot and NH749 on this occasion – 9 April 1983.

Adrian Reynard did own the mark XVIII which is currently owned by Historic Flying.

Not sure – someone else on the forum will, though.

Something tells me the name was mentioned in an earlier thread, but I could be mistaken.

Ummm… at one point it was owned by, I think, Franco Actis, appropriately registered as I-SPIT, until about 1990, when it went to Reynaud (sp) Racing in the UK. Can’t remember the UK reg, though.

She’s now owned by the Cavanaugh Flight Museum, still flying in her original 17 Squadron markings.

Finally, BBMF Spitfire XIX PS915 (not sure what squadron this is)
