Ewan is correct, it is an Canadair CL-4(?) Argonaut (Canadair built Merlin engined DC-4/6 )
Rob-yes it is upside down. port side ?

I have no idea, but would I be right in thinking that it is :-
a) upside down – ie it is the lower half?
and
b) it would be a port engine cowling?
