The Few – out 2005

…or so says the Internet Movie Database!

There’s already plenty of flaming going on in the forums for this movie, the usual “Yanks always winning WW2” argument, and they haven’t even started shooting yet!

According to the article on Billy Fiske in the latest A*roplane, the film company has started sourcing Spitfires already, but one Hurricane owner in the States has been approached. Any ideas who this could be? I can only think of Planes of Fame and Hurricane AE977

Actually, yes, a few years ago I heard they MIGHT do a remake of the Dambusters with Mel Gibson…..and I also heard he was being considered for a Hogan’s Heroes remake…have’nt heard anything on either one since then….

Did anyone ever hear the rumour about “The Dambusters” being remade with a certain Mr Gibson? It was a few years ago, mind…

Perhaps it was because Hollywood got a bit confused between their Mr M Gibson and our Mr G Gibson,it would be funny if it was’nt somewhere possibly in their thinking 🙁

All these inaccuracies just upset me. I take back my comment about just England, Britain, during the battle, because there were many scots involved, and commonwealth.

The Few alaways give America a bad reputation.

English, Scotish, welsh, irish, british…

I find it quite amuzing that Britain is often reffered to as England on a lot of US tv shows, i think some are confused by the whole United Kingdom set up…:)

Point taken. It’s always the loudmouths that are heard.

BUT! I’m English. Why do people always ignore us. (Not aimed at you, Mark, but at everybody that thinks this island is populated by the British, Welsh and Scots).

Mark, We know the majority are good people but unfortunately it’s the few [no pun inended] that shout from the roof tops and over hype/spin things and hollywood has the habit of feeding the flames.
No-one on here has the right or probably wants to upset/insult anyone, i think we are just hoping that the “right thing” will be done by the film makers.
It’s also up to your countrymen to point out to the uninitiated what the truth of the B o B was.
Regards to you all:D

Folks, I can tell you from this side of the Atlantic that the MAJORITY of Americans are not the ‘America, love it or leave it, we do what we want and the hell with the rest of the world!’ variety…most of us are quiet, respectable, baseball game attending, go out and get drunk on a Friday night because the work week is over, work on the car on the weekend while taking our kids to the amusement park folks who just do their part in the world and try to get on with their lives while facing mountains of bills that need to be paid with paychecks that are USUALLY too small to do the job. Most of us have, I believe, a favorable impression of Britain and the folks over there, some of us DO know what you lot did against Hitler and his thugs and respect and admire the tenacity you showed in standing up to a dictator and staring him down….and it’s to that point that I address this group-Americans are not morons (though some of you might differ in that opinion), we know who won the Battle of Britain (certainly not us, although a ‘Few’ helped) and most of us know who the ‘Allies’ were in WWII, and that the whole conflict could not have been won without everyone helping out everyone else. Please, do not take the more ludicrously vocal members of us as a measure of the whole, the loudmouths who DO shout ‘America’s NUMBER ONE!!’ from the highest perches…they do not speak for the rest of us, who are more modest about the achievements of our country….but nonetheless proud of them, just as the British are of theirs, the Welsh, the Scots, etc….

There was quite a lot of Commonwealth pilots there too…

And in an early example of historical revisionism, an ‘Israeli’ acording to the BoB film ‘The Few’ credits.

Personally I am looking forward to the film if only for the flying sequences. I am thinking Battle of Britain with correct shaped Bf109s and better quality filming/’filming’

I agree, I don’t think that the Americans have any business changing History, just because they are the most powerful nation in the world. The battle of Britain is part of England’s pride.

I hardly think that the Americans would like it if we made film about the American civil war and making out tHAT Britain had won the war for the union to defeat the confederacy, no I don’t think that they would like it, do you?:( 🙁 🙁 🙁 🙁

Did Snoopy and the Red Baron already end their Christmas truce!

Charles … also on the west side of the Atlantic, but with plenty of Scottish blood (Banffshire to be precise, beautiful area!)

Dez, was’nt aiming the comments at you OR anyone else…I understood the humor….just sometimes you get a little tired of the joke, be it intended as a joke or honest to goodness malice. Read my responses, they are humorous too.

Only Beagle I’ve seen around here was flying a doghouse and looking for the Red Baron….the doghouse had holes in it, too….sorry.

Corsair 166b

id like to make onr thing crystal clear… my post was a jovial poke at Top Gun vs ‘The Few’ (In the spirit of ‘Hot Shots! great film!) if i was out to make a serious statement against the USA it wouldn’t be done on a forum. I thought the thread was being a bit light hearted but obviously my comments pulled some strings…i am sorry if this has offended you or anyone else. i don’t hate or dislike any country because all a country is, is a collection of people divided by a line on a map. I cant see how i can ‘Hate’ Americans when ive probably only met half a dozen people who happen to be from America. To say you hate a country is a bit of a sweeping statement.

As for the film yes i will wait and see but current track record (Pearl Harbor) perhaps doesn’t inspire the purists with confidence… anywho id rather they make something than nothing!

Anyway have any of you guys over the pond seen a ‘Beagle 2’ space prob that us limies have misplaced, just wondering if youve seen it on your travels…;)

Bloody well right, Der….after all, I’m part Scot too, or so I’m told….never took to the Haggis munching, tho. Still fancy trying on a family kilt someday (don’t let it get around), maybe at the Scottish festival at Estes Park in Sept next.

Good on you Corsair, Boyo!
There’s a heck of a lot of xenophobic nonsense on that other forum.
By “surrounding regions”, are you including us wild haggis munching ginger bearded savages in kilts running round the misty mountains beyond the far northern reaches of England with big swords chasing big hairy cows?:)

I understand the jist of your wrath (all of you) against ‘americanization’ and the altering of history by American directors and movie companies, and I take your comments with the humor that is intended….but on occasion, I think there is the occasional comment that is MEANT to be mean and designed to get a rise out of Americans….the fact is, some Brits don’t like Yanks, and vice versa. Americans are a very vocal lot, whereas the British (I believe) are a bit more reserved, a bit more POLITE than their American counterparts (until you get them on a forum like this!) I am a big advocate of the British, I enjoy the ties that I have with England, in both my friends and my family….but I was born a Coloradan in the US and as such I guess I just don’t quite understand the big ‘knock’ against Americans all the time. I try to take it with a sense of humor and most of the time it’s easy….but sometimes it just gets annoying being ragged on all the time for being born in another country….And so, I hereby announce that I will be applying for citizenship in my ‘descendant’ land, Wales, near Chepstow alledgedly, and will be working hard to remedy the anti-American sentiments expressed by a few in these forums by attempting to return to England all the warbirds that have EVER found their way to American shores from England and the surrounding region….as long as you lot lay off the Welsh sheep jokes! I hear ONE of them and the whole deal is off! I shall start locally (for now) with Bill Greenwood’s T. Mk. 9 Spitfire in Aspen….
