B of B on DVD

Gave myself a nice post christmas present today (along with my new Phil Makanna calendar, 1/2 off) at Borders, managed to pick up a just-arrived edition of Battle of Britain, though it’s not long on extras…only includes the theatrical trailer and the movie itself, does anyone elses have anything different….only ran $10 (about 8 pounds) so the price was right…have’nt seen the movie in about ten years, fun to watch again, especially since I have now seen some of the planes that were in it and been to the Duxford field where part of it was filmed. Can anyone recommend a good companion book that I can get my hands on (remember that I’m in the states), did’nt Rudhall have the market cornered on details about the movie?

I believe you have a very rare item in the book Mark 12, I wonder how many were made.

I can’t believe any publishers in the UK or US even knew that it existed.

Hello Septic,

Here is a little BoB film oddity – a hard back version of the US Ballantine paperback!

I suspect it is a ‘pirated’ version from the Far East as it appears to have Chinese publishing details.

Although billed with 16 pages of colour photos on the dust jacket, they are in fact all low grade black and white at not much better than photocopier quality.

Can anybody shed any light on this?

The late Robert Rudhall had two books published on the film.

Battle of Britain ‘The Movie’ ISBN 0-951832-9-6

and Battle of Britain film ‘The Photo Album. ISBN 0-9538539-3-4.

Also there was the original Leonard Mosley book ‘ Battle of Britain’ The making of a film’ It was available in both hardback and paperback.

Hdbk. SBN 29717909 (Weidenfeld & Nicolson)

Paperback. US card no. 72-84827 (Ballantine books)

Paperback UK 330 02357 8 (Pan)

Unfortunately Robert’s books, due to there limited print run are getting quite difficult to find. The Mosley Hardback has always been quite rare. But the good news is that the Pan paperback must of been printed in huge numbers as this is quite easy to find. Try Amazon or ebay.

Septic.
