Christmas cleaning turned up this backpage from the RAF safety magazine Air Clues, October 1966:
“Destined, in its F-111K form, to enter service with the RAF in early 1969, the General Dynamics F-111 i s currently undergoing extensive flight testing at the hands of USAF and USN pilots. It has also been flown by an RAF test pilot ……”

They cancelled TSR2 to not buy those. Pay towards them yes, receive them, no.

Interesting to note that they got close enough to being delivered that they were given serial numbers – XV884-869 for the TF-111Ks and XV902-947 for the F-111Ks (apparently).
Were they ever built?
