crap film

On CH5 at the moment is possable the worst aviation war film I have ever seen called ‘The secret war of Jackies girls’ from 1980.
I have only just caught 10 minites of it but allreaby there was a
RAF/Luftwaffre dogfight scene which was taken from another film. The Hurricanes taxied in then the pilot got out of a RAF P-51D!
Currently a RAF Bell 47G with bubble removed is being attacked by 3 ‘Me108’s’ while picking up a downed pilot!
This is surely the worse film I have ever seen.

Something was bugging me here.

While I’m sure the film deserves the comments, let’s not forget the Bell 47 type is a lot older than we realise – ” Developed from the Model 30 helicopter of 1943, the Model 47 first flew December 8, 1945. It was granted a commercial license in March, 1946. Variations of this model continued in production until 1976. The last model was built in Italy as the Augusta Bell 47.

__ The example here in the museum is the Model D. It was the first model with familiar “goldfish bowl canopy”. In addition to providing obviously superb visibility, it enabled the aircraft to be used in harsh climates._ Other features are the open-work tail and ventral tail fin. The Model D was the production model built with various engines from 1953 to 1974.” (http://www.bcam.net/hangar%20ac/bell.htm)

OK – So it’s well out, and the 47 don’t actually have W.W.II war service, but it’s a more venerable whirlybird than we think. Given M*A*S*H etc, I’d say (for me anyway) it edges the Huey off the top spot of ‘helicopter’ in Moggie’s Iconics list.

Just a 2p!

From Hell to Victory

Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!

I actually have this shoad of lit on tape – I rekcon maybe Al George or Snapper did the model FX 😀

Which poor Spitfire was it that was used to portray a “Luftwaffe” fighter?? There’s certainly one scene of it flying in formation with a more authentic Heinkel in there!

In fact, did you see the Spanish-marked Dak on a USAAF airfield in it??

“The Luftwaffre night fighter was a Lockheed 14 “

Aha! Not like this one by any chance? Snapped her at Chino in 1993 though this was 13 years after the film was released so perhaps unlikely unless she had been in store afterwards.

Well Rob how do you feel about Gyroplanes in ww2.

I reckon that would make a good film.

Unfortuneatly it finished not long after my post. The Luftwaffre night fighter was a Lockheed 14 with some nose aerials like the Me110/Ju88 and was captured by a squad of soldiers flown in by women pilots in Bell 47G’s!! Totally authentic!! Serves me right for getting home early on a Friday!
An aircraft taking off as a 707 and landing as a 737 I can handle but Bell 47G’s in World War 2 thats a diffrent matter!

No war film can be as bad as the 1979 movie ‘Hell to Victory’ starring George Peppard and George Hamilton!
