Craig Penrice

Hi folks,
I was watching a documentary about the development of Eurofighter the other night, and it included an interview with Test Pilot Craig Penrice. This is the guy who was seriously hurt when he ejected from Hawker Hunter XF516 over the Dyfed Estuary a few months back, and seeing him on the programme made me wonder how he’s doing-anyone know how he’s getting on?

Craig was forced to eject from the F.6 after encountering a severe contol restriction, on the way out of the jet he suffered serious injuries to his right arm, which led to a lengthy recovery period before being restored to full flying duties on the Lightning, lets hope he makes a full recovery on this occasion as well and is back flying again soon.

Glad to know Craig is on the mend….

Wasn’t it a Lightning Craig had to bang out of the first time…

Just thinking, I bet BAe wern’t too chuffed about him being out of action for this length of time, especially as he wasn’t ‘working’, when it happened. It’s a shame he won’t be able to fly ‘real’ aeroplanes anymore, unless he decides to venture into the piston warbird display world instead…..;)

Unfortunately XF516 was Craig’s second serious ejection from a fast jet. He was written off the first time so I’m sure we’ll see him flying the Typhoon again, even if he is a couple of inches smaller in height. 🙂

Craig is doing fine and should be back in the cockpit within the next six or so months.

He has been advise not to fly the Hunter or for that matter any other aircraft that is not fitted with a progressive firing ejection seat.
