The Buchon four blade propeller was a unique item, in metal, developed by Dowty-Rotol. It would at a pinch fit the Spitfire.

One or two in the States have been fitted with modified DC-3 props, I think.

I would be interested in knowing where the propeller from the Buchon comes from, since the Merlin-engined Buchons had 4-bladed props (AFAIK) . Looks like a cut down Hamilton Standard (?) off e.g. an R-1830..

In all probability there were quite a few captured Spitfires in German livery. Here is one of my favourites.

The aircraft that the Airfix 1/72 scale Mk1 is based on was captured and repainted – photos exist of it on the net, but I can’t recall the URL 🙁

Well, there’s a Spitfire in existence that saw service in German markings. I don’t have the pic to hand, but – Farnborough airshow in about 1950, was it?

Wow,
“Taxiing Messerscmitts for – ‘not very much.’ My own go-cart Buchon! Brummmm….. Guess i’d have to take the wings off to avoid any embarissing ‘fast taxy accidents’ and be bankrupt by British fuel prices, but a chap can dream eh?

If I’d known then that I could have bought a flyable Messerschmitt for just 410 weeks’ wages (before tax). That’s only eight years after all.

601?
Nah, what you want is a proper Spanish Messerschmitt…

Dakka dakka dakka…. Thanks Hamish.

Remember most Buchon’s have now clocked up loads more flying time than those borin’ ol’ Luftwaffe machines. Groundloop better too! And even ugly aeroplanes need friends.

Real Messerschmitts have Merlins!

Lovely, good to see one around again. I’d say go for the Spanish markings, if only for one season.

I still have this uneasy feeling about it not being a real “601” engined beast. I now there aren’t that many about, and most of those are currently “broken”. Maybe I’ve been living in Germany too long.

Incommiiingg……

I’d best find another forum to visit after this.

Daz – how nice it would be to see a CASA Ju52 in Spanish markings alongside a Buchon. Then again I would also love to see a Nord 1002 in Aeronavale colours and a MS.505 fly in ALAT
Indo China colours . Might be lost on the general public but they would look great – do you think they could put some RR badges on the Buchon nose !

Had a great time out in Spain many years ago flying Lindsey Walton’s Nord 1002 for the film “Bethune”. On arrival at Cuatro Vientos the Luftwaffe marks were hastily obliterated and Spanish civil war Nationalist marks substituted. After the filming was complete I flew it back to the UK via Biarritz, Poitiers, Le Touquet and Southend to Lindsey’s home strip. It was still in the Spanish markings and generated a lot of interest en-route.

Congratulations to RAF Breighton for a brave decision which I do hope is as indicated. To see another Buchon in the UK Airshow circuit will be great. Bet Taffy and Brian have to get into sphincter tensioning mode fairly soon.
