Have recently joined this forum and wanted to make a contribution. This photo was taken at the South Yorkshire Aviation Museum at Doncaster last Friday and shows their latest project, formerly being Framlingham’s DC-3 N4565L which was transported over to Donny in August. She looks like the world’s largest Airfix kit at the moment 🙂 Spent several hours at the museum, is a superb collection of both restored and “bits n’ pieces” and the staff there are clearly extremely dedicated to their cause.
A quick intro as I recognise many people on this forum: I’m Michael Baldock and prefer to be described as an “e-enthusiast” with two websites – “Rolling Thunder Classic Jets” http://www.worldzone.net/technology/mike1087/index.shtml (which desperately needs revamping) and “Ghostbase” http://www.ghostbase.org which is a bit better. I also run a Yahoo e-group called “Wrecks n’ Wrelics” http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wrecksnwrelics/ which shares photos of post 1945 historic planes and has about 100 members.
Look forward to joining in more in the future 🙂

Great news! I came across the old Framlingham site in the summer and saw this DC-3 lieing there. Assumed it would just end up being vandalised – good to see it in safe hands now.:)

I drove, or rather was being driven or I would have investigated closer, through Doncaster today and saw what appeared to be a floral display in the shape of what I thought to be a DC3 on a roundabout ,if so it all makes sense now.

Mike,
Welcome to the Forum.
Nice to see the old bird from Parham (preferred local name for Framlingham) has found a good home and can maybe now make some progress towards standing on its own legs.
