I tried it online Galland-style once. The place stank of cigars and my eyes were burning!
But hey, it was great!

Mixtec, CFS3 is a great deal heavier on the graphics (and CPU) than CFS2, lots more detail, trees, effects, moving vehicles, excellent terrain mesh, sound effects and it will give most processors a good workout… (looks REALLY good on a cinema screen :D;)…and even better with a few beers aswell!) wouldn’t recommend that anyone try on much less than a 1ghz CPU, 64mb graphics card, 256mb RAM with a single monitor.
Online a great deal of difference is made by the number of players in the room/game, and especially your connection speed/reliability…. cable or broadband is ideal.
The patch that has been released for CFS3 is really a must have, especially if you have a force feedback ‘stick… (pre-patched the forces work in the opposing sense!)
Personal experience of the CFS3 rooms, very mixed, be prepared to get shot down loads if you’re a ‘newbie’ but there are some great games going on…. the ‘missions’ and ‘team dogfights’ tend to have the more serious/friendly gamers (less kids n hot rods).
Have fun, and remember,….. ‘It’s only a game’!…..

This Saturday is it then, lets set it at 20:00 GMT and use the same name as you used before:”FLYPAST” and the same password:”forum”. You can go ahead and open the room up if you are there first, or just want a little pre practice session. Set the realism at 40% to 60% if you do.
I might get some beer myself as it will be a warm 2:00 in the afternoon for me. One thing Ill say about flying under the infuence is though it may decrease your dexterity, it sure does make you more bold and even a bit more creative in your flying.
macky and GZYL- Ill garantee youll get shot down alot when you start out, but thats good as it will make you want to practice your shooting/flying skills almost as if you were a real pilot.

Im in there Saturday evening. Cant do Friday…..gotta go to a ‘Gozome’ party and am running a powerboat course Sat and Sun. However I will be around in the evening to let off some tension (its hard work watching some hamfisted tyro get to grips witha powerboat and drive it safely…without taking control….but its all worth it on the sunday when you step off the boat knowing that they have been trained and know what they know what they are doing…and you then sit back and watch !!!! its a great feeling !.)
However…I digress…. a little bit. Got some more details for us…game No ?…your zone name ?….time ?…GMT time that is !….and the more the merrier pleae join in…it dont matter diddlysquat wether you are a rookie or a pro…its all good fun !
Mental note…must get some more beer in for Sat night !
I’ll be there

Thanks Bigglesworth, alot of valuable info there.
macky- Go ahead and try CFS3, I dont think there is any difference in graphics quality with CFS2, so it should run fine for you. The people on CFS3 multiplayer are a lot nicer and more serious than CFS2. It seems like everyone on CFS2 is a punk flying modded planes, consequently there are more private games there which you cant join.

mixtec, your prob with not being able to join is due to ‘patched ‘and ‘unpatched ‘ versions. Patched version will not allow joins of non-patched and vice-versa. Ergo if you patch you will still get incompatiblities. Go get the patch from here :
I fly under the same name as here or very similar(or with a few numbers) I think I may have ‘mixed it’ with you before online.
http://www.3dgamers.com/games/combatfs3/#filelist
Multilanguage versions too.
or any search on google will bring up the goods. Very large download but worth it.
Also (and this goes for cfs1, cfs2,cfs3) go visit
http://www.avhistory.org
there are some great planes for anyone interested in the historical side with(more) ‘realistic’ flight dynamics and systems.
for additional aircraft/scenery/’tweaks’ you can (all versions cfs, fs)

I’ve just got a copy of CFS2 so I should be able to join in, but I’m a complete novice at both CFS2 and online gaming. Give me some breaks!
CFS3’s out for me, don’t think my PCs up to it.
Just thought, I’m out Friday, it would need to be Sat for me.
By: mixtec - 23rd July 2003 at 17:47
Bigglesworth- I play CFS3 a lot, but I cant get into most games due to some kind of “incompatable protocal” problem. Im assuming there is a patch out there everyone has, do you know where I can get it? Also what name do you fly under? I use the name mixtec.
