TFC Hurricane IV arrived at DX

Apparently TFC’s Hurricane IV has arrived at Duxford.

Other news is that Twilight Tear is almost ready (nose art still required) and the TF51D has been flying. Also, Tigercat, Bearcat, Spit XIV etc all ready for the weekend.

And the list reads 49 aircraft, with 9 surprises. 😎

Wow, that’s just beautiful. Imagine how that’ll look against a clear blue sky? Wonder whether we’ll get to see it parked next to BBMF’s Spit V ? Aw, roll on Sunday! 😀

This, of course, explains why all the posters advertising this event show Spitfire EP120 and a desert painted Hurricane. I did wonder what that was all about.

This must be one of the best kept restoration secrets of all time.

Well done to all concerned, I can’t wait for the weekend.

Hurri looks the bizness……..magnificent sight…:D 😀

Shame they didn’t fabricate copies of the underwing 40mm ‘tankbuster’ cannons, now that would have complimented that desert scheme wonderfully……….:D

I think what Tom might have been referring to is the time scale with the CAA,ie will she be cleared to display at Legends?
As for knocking Skyraiders,we should remember that it IS a WW2 aircraft by design and first flew in 1945 (perhaps even ’44?).If it hadn’t been for the Atom Bomb the Skyraider might well have been unleashed on the Japanese.
Hurri looks beautiful, can’t wait to see her…:)

Tom – I cannot see why the CAA should or would have a problem with her. She was rebuilt by an established and proven company
in the U.K using the latest knowledge in Hurricane rebuilding.
Her pedigree is traceable and I am sure the required paperwork is in triplicate and rubber stamped.

Here’s a pic froom Ben Roger’s Fly Vintage site http://www.flyvintage.com/images/news/2003/hurricane_20030710_01.jpg. She looks fantastic and I really can’t wait to see her in the flesh so to speak, well done to all at Hawker Restorations and TFC, now let’s hope that the CAA are ok with it all 😮 Might just have to have a look in tomorrow on my way home to Narfuk. Anyone know if there are any spare Vokes filters around anywhere as one would make it look perfect for the whole Western Desert scheme of things.

Tom.

Good point, never really thought about that.

But at least the Sandy makes a nice noise 🙂

Absolutely.

But my perception of the current theming is that it’s aimed almost exclusively at pre-1946 aircraft. Which is why I’ve always felt that the Skyraiders don’t fit in amongst all the other Second World War hardware, but that those early jets which entered service or had first flights within that period would be deserving of a place in the line up.

Much as I love the sheer piston aura of the place on Legends weekend, I really do think a Luftwaffe Flight of an Me109, a Flugwerk FW190N and a replica Me262 would not be out of place in a future Flying Legends display.

Like you say Moggy, it’s all about displaying the aircraft in the right context.

Yeah well,

Perhaps I did get a bit carried away there. But you never know there might be someone… somewhere…

No?

OK, point taken.

Moggy

Bet they’d have a collection of windbreaks 😉

Not shunned. Just not an appropriate aircraft for that show.

Theming of shows is as important as theming of museums.

An Enforcer would fit in well at one of the early jet shows, I’d travel a distance to see it.

But it would have no relevance at Legends which is a piston warbird show.

But this is a personal opinion David. You’d obviously be quite happy to see it there, others might like to see some helicopters.

So I guess if anyone ever gets a Piper Enforcer back in the air they will be shunned at Legends ! What a strange world !

It would fit right in if he got the Hispano fitted which I’m told he has or is in the process of getting 😉

Do you think my friend’s EKW C-3605 would be allowed to go bearing in mind that it’s circa 1943 but it was transplanted with one of those ‘dreadful’ parafin burning turbine things (Lycoming T-53) in the late 1960’s???

That’ll be the day I stop going.

Nothing against vintage jets – Sabre, Meteor, F4 especially, but they would ruin the character of this particular show.

The Bucc, Phantom, Lightning etc at RIAT will be driven in on low loaders before the show, Phantom and Harrier already there apparently. 🙂

Anyone been at DX today? Any pics?

Steve: thanks for the input, it was somwhat a suprise to me aswell!. The source for this sighting is infact an employee with DLO at Wyton, so should know what it was. I do know that there are frequent flypasts and visits, since BBMF supplies are dealt with there. IWM are still using one of the Hangars. There is also a Civvy flying club and microlights operating from another Hangar.
A ‘Buc’ is listed to appear at RIAT, so how is it gonna get there? it is static, maybe just a cockpit section??

Leg-ends? well there must come a time when parafin burners are part of the show.

The mystery goes on, we’ll all just have to wait and see…..:D 😉
