Having viewed a number of profiles on this forums members, it appears that a few of us are involved with the Air Training Corps. I would be interested to know, who and where?
I for starters am the CO at 134 (Bedford) Squadron. Because of my aviation background, my cadets tend to do lots of flying and have lots of associated aviation items on our squadron. I am sure that around the various squadrons, there are lots of interesting items hidden away. I think that one of our most unusual items is a flap from a TSR-2 (no Ashley you can’t have it!). We also have a Lancaster Radio set. We also have one of the Tornado development drop test models which is the F3 version and is around 4 meters long!

Not involved with ATC at the mo’ though used to belong to 2071 Stamford Sqn and then 1011 Amesbury Sqn (we had a sectioned Pegasus on a stand in the main room). 1011 had a HQ at Boscombe Down…not sure if its still there tho, been out of the country for nearly 3 years….when I was too old to be a cadet (Sergeant, staff Cadet) I went back as an instructor and a taught engine airframes, ran the Aircraft recce test’s, did flight training and a load of other stuff.
My local ATC out here is No 1 Overseas Sqn Akrotiri, but I put my hand up and havent been involved with them yet. My son wants to join them but he’s a year too young at the mo’ and we are due back in UK around October sometime.
Enjoyed the ATC, learnt a lot, got my marksman qualifications and was solo in a Kirby Cadet 3 on 26 Oct 1976 (aged 16 and a bit) flying from Old Sarum.
blimey…I feel old all of a sudden !
