Looks like what is left of RAF Burtonwood will be no more soon….
A company called Omega want to demolish the existing hangers on A & E sites and also build on the area south of the M62 which was levelled in 1986.
Just what is wrong with incorporating at least the three blister hangers into their plans? They are solid buildings and also adaptable with lots of room, not like the transient stuff that they put up these days…
I know that it’s unrealistic to expect entire large airfields to be preserved in perpetuity, but surely it’s not difficult to make at least one building on each site listed so as to preserve it for future generations, an idea of what was there before. I mean, the only building they have erected on the former Mary Ann/Tech site south of the M62 is a large building, exactly the size, shape and dimensions of…..
….an aircraft hanger!!!!
Unlike the tech site south of the M62, these hangers played a direct part in the Berlin Airlift with the two on A site, being used specifically in relation to this event….
Here is the link anyway to these ‘developers’:

What does everyone think???
In my opinion, these sites MUST be preserved, at least in part….

Something should be done
At the very least if they do not wish to keep these hangers then why not offer them free to a good home for anyone wanting them for covered storage. Buuyer dismantles..?
