Why let facts intervene in an otherwise good story ? The Mail is not alone when it comes to an approximation of the facts. That model of accurate reporting, the Telegraph, now and again inserts the odd ‘howler’.
‘Planes’ not aircraft always ‘crashdive’ into the scene of an accident, with the steely eyed pilot steering his stricken ‘plane’ over or away from either the village school or a row of cottages or some other locality, contact with which, would have meant ‘catastrophic destruction’ leading to huge ‘loss of life’ etc. etc.
I don’t know who is worst – television or newspapers.

Years ago journalists had integrity. I guess leveson has proven it doesn’t exist any more.
This isn’t a case of integrity…knowledge, background and research, taking pride in one’s work, yes, but not integrity.
Integrity has to do with being biased or making stuff up.
I spent years trying to help journalists get aviation matters correct. Some days you win, some you lose. After awhile I got a sixth sense of when they misunderstood something and was able to correct them.
To be fair, some of the fault lies at the feet of the experts giving them the story. You can’t use jargon or hangar talk. Doing an interview is no time to try to come across as “Capatin Cool, DSO, DFC, AFC Jet Ace”.
If you use a term, be prepared to define it.
Watch their eyes for any signs of glazing.;)
Imagine you were a reporter and you were assigned to do a story on somethhing you know nothing about and your interview subjects are using strange terms.
For me a nightmare would be trying to do something on sailing ships with all the sails, lines and bits of the hull having unique names.
I’ve read the complete Patrick O’Brian “Master and Commander” series twice and I still get my sails incorrect. 😮
But then again, I’d be smart enough to write a story without getting too technical because most of your readers/viewers arent going to know what you’re talking about anyway.
Tell the human side of the story, not a technical piece.

Doesn’t the engine stall in a stall turn? 😀
I had a old Jeep do that….the engine would occasionally stall when in a left turn.
Turned out to be a minor electrical issue…

Funny story. It just goes to show that journalistic integrity is absolute rubbish when it comes to the daily fail.
Saying that, I gave up sending in corrections to the BBC over it’s shuttle coverage. I think the problem has a lot to do with the speed of news delivery, it has to get out there ASAP and facts checking can wait until later…. which quite often is never.

aerobatics are now known as air acrobatics.. and a stall turn is done with the engine off! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2163215/Bad-air-day-Carol-Vordermans-barnet-battered-35mph-winds-takes-sky-air-acrobatics.html

Not particularly. It’s just comical that they don’t even do research before publishing this stuff.

You’re not surprised, are you?
