Now I know this is not strictly Flypast related, but has anyone ever been to the North Weald Aerofair, if so whats it like?
Is anyone planning to go this weekend?

Hi. I was doing the radio when the Mustangs arrived, and who wisely went around the airfield one more time while the melee subsided. It was frantic.
When you taxied out I was standing next to the last marshaller on the taxiway.
After the display, when all the departures started, I cleared one acft to cross the runway and five crossed!! 😮
Good fun! :D:D:D

Hi Vintage,
Were you the chap on the other end of the radio then, having to deal with shed loads of aircraft all turning up at once, some taxying off to the wrong side of the runway, and one or two not bothering to talk at all?

Hi vintage, were you there on Saturday?
Could have sworn you were – saw someone like you looking at the Chippy and C421 – I was nearby chomping a rather expensive bacon butty at the time.

Taken at about the same time too! 😀
I’m jealous as hell. . . . .;)

Husky
Well, all the lines of a Cub yet with a 180hp engine and able to lift more as well. Very tidy panel as photographed. yet when I approached the slaesman, he didn’t seem interested. How are they going to sell any?
The Citabria range now again on sale offer all the performance of the Cub for less oney and more speed with the same spec. Know which one I’d go for 🙂

My Yak instructor was part of the original Aerostars, then largely composed of self-made businessmen who had enough disposable to buy a Yak and very little familiarity with the word discipline.
“Nightmare” was about the only printable comment I can recall.
Sounds like they have improved somewhat.
If it wasn’t actually ‘The Aerostars” can I apologise in advance?
It was a late 80s, early 90s, N Weald based group of Yak 52 that ‘recreated’ US-style pylon racing to a commentary bordering on the hysterical, which may well have had something with Brendan Thingy. If not, more apologies are in order.

Agree that the 47 has a certain nostalgia value, but as for the party trick…
…. I think you are going to the wrong parties.
Moggy.
LOVE the Husky though. Can it lift those tyres?

Aerostars
Now, the Aerostars have to be seen to be believed. Originally a 4-ship 3xYak50 and one Super Yak52, they have expanded by to further Yak50s. I think the pilots are ex Red Arrows. Apply that display knowledge, plus tighter turning circles and rumblin’ radials…well, it beats the Reds hands down! A must see for this year.

“Approve” and “helicopter” in the same sentence? I don’t think so; the word ‘smelter’ has to appear as well surely?

Heads-up peeps.
I’ve created a photo album of the photos I took last Saturday at North Weald. (Click on the thumbnail for the full-sized version)

If the place were dead (like it almost was) and the air display still went ahead, it’s well worth the entrance fee in my opinion 🙂 The Yaks and Sukhoi were stunning, as was “Mad” Dennis Kenyon in his helicopter. Even Moggy might approve on this last point
