Just as I was about to order a Canon 10D I was informed that in late August a digital Eos-3 is to be launched , aswell as an updated Eos-1D. Both are expected to have an 8 mil. sensor. If this is so, I’ll guess I’ll wait the summer out before buying anything. Maybe the price of the !D will drop now also. BW Roger

What if some of us don’t have that much wonga to fork out? Any good choices in the Nikon or Fuji range? I think the ideal airshow digi should be one that takes the photo instantly and works well in poorer light conditions?
In my case, for 600 nicker and the owner of a Fuji 6900, what should I be looking at?

A Photobus?

Damien – how unlucky could you get to be run over by a bus whilst
on an airfield taking pictures of aircraft!!!!!

I realise that Damien. I am working now on a Canon Eos 1V and a Digital Eos-1N (Kodak DCS-520). The 1D is the digital version of my 1V, and if I get a 1D, I’ll have the same camera, a digital 1V and a “normal” 1V. I have time (yet) as the 520 gives great shots up to 13 x 18 (CM) in print. For the price I pay in Holland for a 10D with the handgrip under it, I can get a 1D in New York. So making a choice is more an economic one, and as I go to the USA late this year or early next year I’ll wait.
What is keeping me from the 10D (yet) is the fact that I go from a 45 sensor AF in my 1V to “only” 7 in the 10D. But maybe these 7 are just as fast, I don’t know. Another point is the fact that the 1D has a buffer of 24 shots and the 10D one of nine. Does this mean that after shooting 9 shots in RAW not able to photograph as the writting down of the RAW’s can take from 30 seconds to almost 2 minutes (as somebody on DPreview stated)? These are the 2 biggest questions I have on the 10D. If these are non existing, I’ll guess I’ll go for the 10D (but I’ll buy it in the USA, just to bypass those much to high taxes here.

The 1Ds is the best DSLR at the moment, but the price is so terrible high that it is beyond my current choices. Hope to buy a second hand one in a few years time. I still think I’ll go for the “normal” 1D when its price drops, and I’ll buy one in NY next year April. Price of the 1D there is already 1000 P.St. less then what i have to pay in Holland. How can the same camera be 50% lower priced in the USA ? I can get a 10D there for 1250 Euro, and I pay here 2295 Euro. Can anybody explain why they are so much cheaper in the USA? Taxes or so? In the June edition of PC Advisor there is a review of the Cannon EOS-1Ds. It has 11Mp resolution which they consider film quality.
It will be priced at £5,956 not including memory or.. lens! It will take Canon EF lenses.

Hi Snapper,
You mean I’ve got to stick to my 25year old Canon AE1, then! I don’t think I’m up to this more modern technology:rolleyes:
Cheers,

Does this mean the 10D won’t work anymore? Damn! 2 days before the announcement of the 10D, Canon UK OFFICIALLY told me they hadn’t any confirmation it even existed. I had heard autumn for the next one after the 10D – but its all speculation. I road tested my 10D yesterday. I am sold (and photos are my living). 35mm is obsolete now. I saved all the scanning time I would have had, plus the waiting for the slides to be developed, and I didn’t need 5 ISO’s. 1600 was noisy though – but still better than Fuji 1600 neg film. I have, at ladt, NO DUST!!!!!!!!

I think this going to be the same as all electronic equipement eg computers, mobile phones etc. As soon as your decide and buy, a newer, better (and more expensive) model comes out. The SLR digitals at the moment are between £1500 and £3500 I expect some will be around £1000 by the end of the year. Just look at current PC prices.
