BBMF display dates?

BBMF’s website still doesn’t show any display dates, and I can’t seem to find any contact details. Do any other forum members have details of their displays, especially over the next few weeks? I’m thinking mainly of whether the Lancaster will be performing a run along Ladybower reservoir, or any other Dambuster-specific events in this 60th anniversary year. Thanks in advance…

A Hurricane did a couple of circuits of Newark just as I drove off around 4 yesterday – b****y typical. Flew off roughly east afterwards. Wind was very gusty. Tricky landing awaiting presumably.

Lucky old you lot. I, and several hundred other people, spent an hour in torrential rain at Brooklands on Saturday watching the cloud base get lower and lower waiting for the Lancaster to do a flypast. Sadly they had to cancel. I’m still drying out my camera. Whoever it is in change of the weather has got it in for me as the Lancaster had to cancel Duxford Airshow due to weather when I was there earlier in the month. Oh well!!!!

Yes, she did perform three runs along the reservoir, at progressively lower altitudes. Someone was having FAR too much fun on the third one… šŸ˜€

Anyway, she was accompanied by one of the Hurricanes which was following at a respectful distance – no sign of a Spitfire though, perhaps the wind at Coningsby was a bit too iffy for the narrow track undercarriage?

The sound of the Merlins could only just be made out, as I had one of Seafuryfan’s big eggbeaters noisily defying all natural and physical laws just behind me.

Oh, and to complete the 617 theme, a pair of Tornados came through a couple of minutes after BBMF departed, but not nearly as low… šŸ˜‰

According to the local news and the BBC website, the Lancaster did indeed fly yesterday.

The above link is the page that I read this evening. It was just a shame the weather was not better.

Did the Lanc flyover the Eyebrook Reservoir yesterday? It was supposed to fly onto Brands Hatch later and then to Herne Bay which would have taken it near my home but I didn’t see anything. Weather was heavy cloud. I only got a Sea King!

Just a quick update on Eyebrook – I’m trying to upload an OS map segment, but it’s too big so I’ll give a quick pen picture instead.

Eyebrook can be accessed from the village of Caldecott, which is about four miles north of Corby on the A6003. On the southern edge of Caldecott, there is a turning signed Great Easton. Take that road, follow it through the village of Great Easton, and half a mile after the village there’s a right turn signed Stoke Dry and Lyddington. This leads up a rise, and as you come over the crest, you get a great view of the reservoir ahead of you with the dam to the right. There are grass verges there, and it seems that this will be the best spot to view the BBMF from.

I popped in and spoke to Eyebrook Fisheries – they advised me that they are on private land, and that the gates to it will be patrolled, so don’t try to get in and close to the dam itself.

Hope that helps – if you’re there tomorrow and see a short haired bloke in his thirties with a very hyperactive five year old son, come and say hi. šŸ™‚

Hi Steve

Let us know what you find on Thursday. I’m thinking of driving to Eyebrook on Saturday but worried I’ll have a wasted journey if I can’t get anywhere near!

Eyebrook Res

Steve

Hopefully this will help although knowing my luck the Nav will change it. The Lanc will come over Rutland water and exit at the western end leading it into the res from the north east ,it will then straighten, to go over the dam. The lanc will be then followed the Spit & Hurri and then they should do a further 3 passes

Eyebrook does indeed have a dam at the southern end.

Scroll down past Mal Carey and his Rainbow Trout, and there’s a decent aerial photo and map on this link…

Many thanks.

Thanks everyone, that list is particularly useful. šŸ™‚

Fluffy – are you able to give any more details about the Eyebrook reservoir appearance? I’m specifically after the planned arrival time and approach route, if that’s at all possible please?

Many thanks in advance.
