Thanks Moggy.

As someone who openly admits that he is technically incompetent re all things PC, your comment has advanced my meagre knowledge no end.:) 🙂

Now is there anyone who can help, preferably using words with no more than two syllables or eight letters in them please?

Thanks guys. I’m using CFS 1 and 2 but have problems When playing online. An example. Went up against Snapper the other night and with me going at full chat, and Snapper throttled right back he still pulled away from me at a rate of knots, even when using the same a/c. So, I think I must have a problem.

Also installed IL2. Looks great but doesn’t work. Takes an absolute age to load. and when you get to the menu screen the cursor does not do what you want it to. I can sit here twiddling my thumbs watching the cursor move randomly around the screen like a pointer on a ouija board.

To top it all, it wont even uninstall!

So, I’ll stick with CFS 1 and 2. Any thoughts on what might be causing me problems will be appreciated.

Rowan’s BoB aint that bad, same people who developed MiG Alley, which at the time was alright as well.

The most impressive thing about BoB was the sheer number of ac that were up at any one time, certainly gave the impression of what BoB must have been like at times. (Not that I know first hand that is)

I also believe that Rowan released the source code for Bob a few months back now, which should mean that there could possibly be some mods available. And maybe even some improved flight models!

At a fiver its worth dabbling with over a rainy weekend I guess.

Whoa!

You do mean CFS 1 or 2 don’t you?

CFS3 is a buggy, glitch-ridden stutterer of a program that you spend the first six nights downloading a variety of patches and fiddling with obscure settingsfor so as to end up with a programme in which you can take out substantial metal bridges with just a couple of 20mm cannon but that doesn’t really matter since the Nazi horde continue to drive over them anyway.

Meanwhile, in the Channel, a substantial Kreigsmarine fleet of several hundred ships spends much of 1943 and 1944 re-enacting the Spithead review about six miles off the Needles.

I don’t know what that programme is for. Certainly not a ZX81 clone.

For someone who’s not very good at flying sims (ask Snapper and Geedee) and who only wants a bit of fun, at that price is it worth having a go? And, will it run on XP? If so is it easy to load? Any advice would, as always, be appreciated.

Maybe I’m just an amateur ..but can anyone tell me how not to spin and hit the ground within 30 seconds of starting it up……unlike cfs 1 ( yes I know..cfs 1 ha ha ha .. but my computer is only one step up from a ZX81 and the new ones don’t run on it) where I can get a good score…..well…in half-witt mode anyway 😀

Just want to say this is one of the best flight sims around. The game is about 3 years old now so the graphics arent at the same crisp level as Il-2, but its still very well done graphics. Its supposed to be a stratagy game but its really not as you can only assign bombing targets for the german side and allocate fighters and readiness level for the english. Once the planes are in the air you cant do anything to control either side. What makes this sim great though is the dogfighting as the AI is really good and the physics for the time space relationships are second to none. The flying characteristics of the planes are really good also (can anyone stand CFS2 on high flight realism settings?). My favorite is to use the unlimitted ammo and fuel cheats and strafe german bombers all the way back to their airfields and continue to strafe them as they land at their airfields. And really, isnt early Me-109 vs early spitfire about as classic a dogfight senario in all of aviation combat history?

Pah!Loosten up Damien :p.Ok,so it’s not exactly CFS2 or Il2 Sturmovic, but it’s still damn good fun.The scenery is good, the aircraft are accurate in basic shapes and overall detail, even the curvy Spit, and various other minor types like the Defiant and Blenhiem are included. The flight model is a bit fishy (the easy setting being child’splay and the ‘realistic’ setting being impossible),but you can fly the aircraft of either side, and all the aircraft are good fun to fly.Take part in historically based engagements,or dream up some of your own.All in all,it’s a bargain so long as you’re not expecting anything too serious.
Still gives you a thrill to chase a 109 down into the drink and watch it disappear in a cloud of spray!
