Hi guys,
Here is a little wreck info and a picture for you and the link to the page it belongs. A spitfire (or at least thats what is claimed) was uncovered in a dry river bed. Read on for the full story.

Fighter wreckage dug out of river bed.
Ambala, Feb 8 (PTI) The wreckage of an old fighter aircraft was today dug out of the bed of river Markanda by IAF authorities.
Six pieces of the aircraft were recovered today in the excavation that was overseen by a number of IAF officials, including a wing commander.
The operation started on February six when a team of air force personnel reached the site after getting information about the aircraft from police sources.
Three of the vegetable growers of village Rolaheri near river Markanda first sighted the wreckage on February five while planting watermelon saplings in the river bed.
The Air force authorities did not disclose whether the wreckage would be converted into scrap or would be reassembled to be kept in a museum.
However, villagers have demanded that the aircraft be reassembled and placed on a chowk close to the village.
An elderly resident of the village, Faquir Chand, said around 1947 an aircraft had crashed near the village.
The place where the wreckage was discovered was at that time a thick forest, so none of the villagers or air force personnel could rescue it, he said.
(PTI photo shows air force personnel trying to extricate the aircraft wreckage from the riverbed near Ambala yesterday.)

Oh, I dunno Steve……
Oh, I dunno Steve, they did manage to get the centre section up intact – complete with dihedral. Withuot knowing the difficulties of logistics in the area I think its difficult to be judgemental….
I’m pleased the Indians have done the job – let’s hope HFL can work their magic on it 🙂

Not surprised it’s being deemed as ‘restorable only in the west’. Trying to drag it out of the mud with chains and bulldozers didn’t exactly do it any favours…
