For those who take a keen interest in the subject; on Sunday and possibly for a bit longer S-Sugar at Hendon was resting on its rear wheel while new exhibits are brought in through the rear door of the Museum. Anyone going for a look – please note that a large section of the Bomber Command Hall is closed while this movement goes on – and take a look at my conservation work on the port bomb bay door.

Lancman…
Why not volunteer to give Dave a hand and get you mits mucky while restoring the Lancaster? I bet the first thing you do is chuck that perch in the bin?
LOL

RE: Lancaster S-Sugar
Of course the conservation is the most important part, and I’m glad to hear that she’s gradually going to go matt black, though I have a feeling it’ll be a LONG wait before she’s entirely repainted? I mean, that’s going to mean new codes and nose art and everything, isn’t it? What the actual plan there then David?

Hello David.
Always good to see posts from fellow lancaster restoration teams. It is great to hear that Sugar now has her tailwheel on the ground. I was beginning to think that her tailwheel was damaged or something hence being placed on the budgie perch.
You are doing a great job on the bombdoors. I cant wait to see her al painted up in the correct colors.!

Like a sore thumb! But that is because we are using the correct Matt Black. It’s going to be a while before all the old incorrect semi gloss has been removed. The important point, however, is the conservation treatment to the bare metal once the old paint is removed, but before the new is applied.

Yay! About damned time her bum was back on terra firma, too. David, perhaps now is the time to politely suggest to the ‘powers that be’ around you there that she in fact looks a lot better as Chadwick intended!
Does your new black paint match then, or stand out like a sore thumb like that on her port side?!
